A workshop at the Ministry of Administration and Local Development on the development of value chains for agricultural crops

It started in the Ministry of Administration and Local Development today, a workshop to develop value chains for agricultural crops, especially apples and pomegranate fruits, organized by the Ministry in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries, Economy and Industry, and the local authority in Saada Governorate.
In a week, the workshop discusses a number of targeted axes to advance value chains of 44 agricultural crops, while paying special attention to the apple and pomegranate series, evaluating the activities implemented during the past year, and reviewing the proposed mechanism to work by the leadership of the local authority in Saada Governorate, to enhance coordination between the central executive authorities as well as local authorities in the governorates.
At the opening of the workshop, which was attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister, the scholar Mohamed Moftah, the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Administration and Local Development and the rural Muhammad al -Madani pointed out the importance of the workshop to discuss the coordination mechanisms between the central executive authorities and the local authorities regarding the development of value chains for a wide range of agricultural crops of up to 44 products.
He stressed that this effort aims to reduce the import bill by enhancing cooperative work and improving the performance of cooperative societies, in addition to activating societal initiatives in various fields.
Al -Madani stressed the need to prepare the local community to contribute effectively in developing the production of agricultural crops by raising awareness of the importance of quality and supporting the local product, and activating the role of specialized cooperative societies.
In turn, the Minister of Agriculture, Fish Resources and Water Resources, Dr. Radwan Al -Ribai, pointed to the pivotal role that everyone should play, each in the framework of its competencies, to push the wheel of agricultural development and implement the programs of value chains and agricultural initiatives, especially those related to the agricultural marketing program according to the value of value chains.
He pointed to the necessity of qualifying the administrative bodies of cooperative societies and enhancing their efficiency in managing field activities, stressing that the current stage requires an effective movement in the field to implement plans on the ground.
While the governor of Saada Muhammad Awad stated that the governorate is one of the most important fruits producing areas in Yemen, especially the Romans and apples.
He touched on the various challenges facing farms, which are the high costs of production, transportation and marketing, in addition to the problem of smuggling agricultural products.
The governor, Awad, expressed hope that the workshop will contribute to practical solutions to these challenges and exploit the opportunities available to enhance the quality of the apple and pomegranate fruits, in a way that contributes to achieving self -sufficiency and supporting the local economy.
He pointed out that efforts to activate cooperative societies reflect a trend towards benefiting from the organized collective action to achieve these goals.
The workshop witnessed the presence of the finance ministers of Abdul Jabbar Ahmed, the economy, industry and investment, Engineer Moeen Al -Mahsari, Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, the deputy ministers of the local administration and development, Nasser Al -Mehdhar, the interior, Major General Abdul Majeed Al -Murtada, Chairman of the Military Intelligence Authority, Major General Abdullah Al -Hakim, and the head of the Land Transport Authority, Dr. Ibrahim Al -Moayad, a review of the executive mechanism to organize the marketing and export operations of agricultural crops accordingly For value chains methodology, focusing on reducing the import bill.
Participants in the workshop acknowledged the focus on the valuable series of apple and pomegranate counters as preliminary models for the application of this mechanism, and the need to address the problem of smuggling and its negative impact on the quality of the product and export opportunities.
The workshop comes within the framework of the efforts of the government of change and construction to achieve a comprehensive agricultural renaissance in Yemen, especially in light of the current challenges, with the aim of enhancing self -reliance and achieving food security for citizens.
The opening of the workshop was attended by a number of agents, directors of the directorates in Saada, and representatives of the competent authorities.
