Al-Naimi, Al-Durrah, and Al-Mutahhar inaugurate work on the single sea window in Hodeidah Port

Member of the Supreme Political Council, Muhammad Saleh Al-Nuaimi, and the Caretaker Ministers of Transport and Industry, Abdul-Wahab Al-Durrah, and Muhammad Al-Mutahhar, inaugurated the work of single window services in the port of Hodeidah.

The single window project was implemented by the General Investment Authority under the supervision of the Maritime Affairs Authority in accordance with the standards of the International Maritime Organization, which obligated all the world’s ports to operate with the maritime window starting from the first of January 2024.

The project aims to simplify and automate the exchange of information between all concerned parties in the maritime sector related to the arrival and departure of ships and the movement of goods and containers, speed up their transportation procedures, and enhance security and safety in the maritime supply chain.

During the inauguration, Al-Naimi, Al-Durrah, and Al-Mutahhar were briefed on the technical equipment for the sea window project and the efforts and work that have been made to complete the infrastructure of the project building according to the specified schedule, which reflects Hodeidah Port’s compliance with the International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities.

They, along with the head of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, marine engineer Yasser Muhammad, listened to a clarification from the heads of the General Authority for Investment, Yasser Al-Mansour, and the head of maritime affairs, Zaid Al-Washli, about the level of equipment for the project to ensure that Yemen meets the necessary standards and protocols in the guidelines for implementing work in the single window, in a way that enhances the efficiency, transparency, and security of maritime work in the port. Hodeidah.

They also listened to an explanation from the technical side and specialists about the nature of the work of the single window that includes the port community consisting of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, specifications and standards, customs, plant quarantine and security, under the supervision and management of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs.

After that, a meeting was held to review the aspects of the single window mechanism in the presence of directors of entities operating in the port community and agents of shipping companies, according to the timetable set by the International Maritime Organization.

During the inauguration, a member of the Supreme Political Council, Al-Nuaimi, praised the efforts made to complete all the steps related to completing the preparation and implementation of the single window for digital development in the port of Hodeidah, automating the entire port community, and preparing this window for all ports of the Republic in the future.

The inauguration of work at the window, in light of the challenges resulting from the aggression, was considered a qualitative achievement that culminates the efforts of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council, and the government to provide work requirements in the maritime sector.

For his part, Minister Al-Durra stressed that the launch of the single maritime window will contribute to facilitating transactions and quickly completing procedures in one place and an effective automated system within the framework of the guidelines issued by the Maritime Organization, with high efficiency that keeps pace with development, maritime transformation and navigation activity.

He stressed the need to complete the link with the rest of the concerned authorities on the 26th of this month, which coincides with World Customs Day, pointing out that this project culminates the ambitions of the Ministry of Transport for a qualitative transition to improve work efficiency in the maritime transport sector, which has witnessed many restrictions, challenges and difficulties.

Minister Al-Durra indicated that the Ministry plans to implement many specific projects to improve transportation services in the maritime sector.

In turn, Minister Al-Mutahhar praised the launch of the single maritime window and considered it an important step to facilitate customs clearance procedures and eliminate the obstacles that were a concern for importers and the commercial sector, stressing that the launch of this window would improve the business environment in a way that contributes to stimulating investment and attracting new investments within the framework of concerted and integrated efforts. For the economic advancement of the country.

He noted the great strides taken by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to move towards automating transactions and completing them through the Ministry’s electronic window.

He pointed out the importance of electronic connectivity to achieve integration between various entities.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Maritime Affairs and the Director General of the Maritime Affairs Authority, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mushki, reviewed the overall services that the single window will provide to shipping agents and companies to keep pace with the requirements of maritime development and apply the required standards.

They considered the launch of work on the project a turning point for work in maritime affairs in accordance with what is practiced in the world’s ports.
