An expanded meeting between the Traffic and Public Works Departments in the Capital Secretariat to address congestion and enhance traffic safety

 

An expanded meeting was held today in Sana’a, bringing together leaders from the General Traffic Department and the Public Works Office in the Capital Secretariat to discuss a comprehensive array of proposed solutions to reduce traffic congestion and enhance discipline and safety on the city’s streets.

The meeting, which included the Director-General of the Traffic Police, Major General Dr. Bakil Muhammad al-Barashy, the Director-General of the Public Works Office, Abdulsalam al-Jaradi, and a number of security and service leaders, reviewed executive measures aimed at regulating traffic and addressing the most prominent direct causes of congestion, most notably the proliferation of informal markets and the chaos of parking spaces in front of hospitals, schools, and commercial establishments.

The attendees stressed the need to activate field coordination between the relevant authorities, define the powers of joint intervention, and develop an executive mechanism to implement the proposed solutions on the ground, which will contribute to improving the traffic situation and reducing daily bottlenecks. The meeting, attended by the Deputy Director-General of Traffic Police, Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Aqar; the Director of Traffic for the Capital Municipality, Colonel Najib Al-Asadi; his deputy, Colonel Hussein Al-Manhi; the Deputy Directors-General of Public Works, Abdul Latif Al-Wali and Salim Rajeh; and the Deputy Director of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund, Rizq Al-Hajj, approved the implementation of the traffic procedures matrix submitted by the Traffic Police to reduce congestion and violations.

The meeting recommended the importance of launching awareness and field campaigns to regulate markets and stalls, obligating commercial establishments to provide designated parking spaces, and regulating public bus routes, in parallel with the implementation of deterrent legal measures against violators.

The attendees emphasized the importance of continued institutional coordination and close follow-up on the implementation of recommendations, to achieve a tangible impact on the capital’s traffic situation.

During the meeting, Major General Al-Barashi emphasized the importance of these meetings, as they represent a practical step toward building a safer and more fluid traffic environment, in implementation of the directives of the Ministry’s leadership and keenness to improve the quality of life in the capital.

For his part, Director General of Public Works, Abdulsalam Al-Jaradi, praised the field work of traffic officers, stressing that activating the team spirit and expanding partnerships with the directorates are the foundation for success in any effective solutions to ensure stabilization after implementing the traffic reforms and improvements referred to in the matrix.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Traffic Safety Department at the Traffic Department, Major Abdulkhaliq Al-Samawi; the Director of Supply at the Capital Municipality Traffic Department, Major Yousef Al-Sarari; the Director of Facilities and Markets at the Public Works Office, Zaker Al-Amri; and the Director of Cleaning in the Al-Sab’een area, Yahya Saeed.
