Discussing mechanisms to enhance maritime activity and intensify efforts to address damage to Hodeidah ports.

Today, Sunday, Dhu al-Qi’dah 13, 1446 AH (May 11, 2025 AD), Minister of Transport and Public Works, Major General Mohammed Ayash Qahim, discussed with the leadership of the Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation mechanisms to enhance maritime activity at the port of Hodeidah and intensify efforts to address the damage to the docks caused by the Zionist attack. This will contribute to maintaining the continuity of maritime services and ensuring the flow of vital supplies to the country.

 

The meeting, held at the port of Hodeidah and attended by the Corporation’s Chairman, Engineer Zaid Ahmed Taha Al-Washli, his Deputy, Mr. Nasr Abdullah Al-Nusairi, and a number of general managers, reviewed developments in various port facilities and assessed the extent of damage to the docks. The meeting also discussed the measures required to ensure continuity of performance and overcome current challenges at the ports of Hodeidah and Ras Isa.

Minister Qahim emphasized at the meeting that all workers at Hodeidah’s ports are fighters on the economic front, one of the most important fronts that secures food and medicine for all Yemenis. He praised their high national spirit and dedication to their duties.

He stressed the need to enhance cooperation and coordination with various relevant authorities at the highest levels, calling for the utilization of all national expertise to support the port, maintain its vital activity, and address all challenges.

The Minister of Transport and Public Works indicated that urgent emergency measures must be taken to avoid potential damage to the infrastructure, especially after the Zionist attack on the docks. This requires swift action from the relevant authorities.

He explained that the port of Hodeidah, thanks to God and the efforts of its loyal personnel, continues to provide services to all incoming ships. He emphasized that the difficulties and obstacles facing the port will be overcome with strong will and unwavering determination.

Qahim also emphasized the importance of the committees tasked with inventory, assessment, and documentation completing their tasks quickly and submitting their reports as soon as possible, so that appropriate measures can be taken to address the damage and conduct rehabilitation.

For his part, the Corporation’s Chairman, Engineer Zaid Al-Washli, affirmed that the Corporation’s leadership and all its technical and administrative staff are working at a high pace around the clock to ensure continued operations at the Corporation’s ports. He highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination with all relevant authorities to expedite repair and maintenance operations, ensuring the port’s full operational readiness.

He pointed out that technical and engineering teams have begun inventory, assessment, and urgent remediation work at both the ports of Hodeidah and Ras Issa since the beginning. He praised the efforts of the workers and their resilience in the face of challenges, emphasizing that the ports of Hodeidah will remain a major lifeline serving all Yemenis.

Following the meeting, Minister Qahim, accompanied by Chairman of the Board of Directors Zaid Al-Washli, his Deputy Nasr Al-Nusairi, and a number of general managers, reviewed the extent of the damage to the port’s docks, the measures taken, and the efforts made in rehabilitation and restoration work.

Minister Qahim praised the efforts made, stressing his commitment to redouble these efforts, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances facing the country.

The Minister of Transport and Public Works also visited the crew of the container ship JI ZHE 2, which arrived today at the port of Hodeidah. He presented them with commemorative gifts to commemorate the ship’s repeated dockings for more than ten commercial trips to the port, despite the failed US escalation. This confirms the growing international confidence in the port’s efficiency and its ability to continue providing its maritime services.
