A meeting in the Capital Municipality, chaired by Hamoud Al-Naqeeb, Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the Municipality’s Local Council, today discussed the mechanism for resuming the joint campaign to remove slums and causes of traffic congestion in the capital’s streets and districts.

The meeting, which included the Directors of Public Works, Engineer Abdul Salam Al-Jaradi; Sanitation, Ibrahim Al-Sarabi; Traffic, Colonel Najib Al-Asadi; and the Transport Authority Branch, Mohammed Al-Shahari, along with a number of stakeholders, reviewed the requirements for regulating traffic and removing unplanned and obstructive structures from the main streets.

The attendees agreed to relocate informal markets to designated locations that provide a safe environment for vendors and ensure smooth traffic flow on the streets.

They also agreed to remove damaged and abandoned vehicles, in coordination with the cleanliness project, and transfer any unused vehicles to the Traffic Department, giving their owners a grace period starting next Saturday to voluntarily remove them.

The executive regulations signed between the Ministries of Interior and Public Works and Transport regarding the regulation of transport sorting were also reviewed.

They emphasized the importance of transforming the Bab al-Yemen station into a model for sorting taxis between governorates and developing a joint mechanism to regulate it, in preparation for expanding the experience to other sorting stations.

At the meeting, the captain praised the efforts of the traffic police, affirming the municipality’s support for measures aimed at controlling traffic, reducing congestion, and eliminating unauthorized traffic.

The municipality’s traffic director emphasized the interest of the leadership of the Ministry of Interior and the traffic police in these measures, given their importance in enhancing traffic safety and protecting lives and property.

The directors of the Public Works and Cleaning Department and the Transport Authority branch indicated their continued coordination with the Traffic Department to achieve the desired goals, emphasizing that the joint efforts have resulted in improved safety, organization, and the aesthetic appearance of the city.

Following this, a field visit was conducted to the Bab al-Yemen bus station to review preparations for the rehabilitation project.
