Landslide Damage Inspected on Several Roads in Jabal Al Mahwit District

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works for the Roads Sector, Engineer Nabil Al-Haifi, inspected today the damage caused by landslides on several roads in Jabal Al Mahwit District.
He and the district director, Khamash Habish, reviewed the landslide damage in the Al-Manakh area of Jabal Al-Tarf sub-district, as well as in the Beit Al-Turki area of Anbar sub-district, which has caused accidents and disrupted traffic, especially during the rainy season.
Al-Haifi listened to an explanation from the director of the governorate’s Public Works Office, Yahya Al-Qadi, regarding the extent of the damage, the difficulties facing maintenance work, and the interventions required to reduce the recurrence of these landslides and protect lives and property. The Undersecretary of the Roads Sector directed the swift removal of debris from roadsides, the reopening of damaged sections, and the identification of suitable sites for transporting soil and debris. He also ordered studies to implement structural repairs to the damaged road in the Al-Manakh area, including the construction of retaining walls and rainwater drainage channels, to mitigate landslides and protect the road.
He emphasized the importance of integrated efforts between relevant authorities, local officials, and the community to carry out maintenance work. He also stressed the need to develop plans to address hazardous locations, particularly in mountainous areas prone to landslides.
Al-Haifi noted that the Ministry gives special attention to roads in Al-Mahwit Governorate due to its mountainous terrain and the vital role roads play in facilitating the movement of citizens and the delivery of goods and services.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Governorate’s Public Works Office, Yahya Al-Qadi, confirmed that the office is working according to a comprehensive plan to monitor and address landslide sites in various districts, within the limits of available resources. He explained that emergency teams are making continuous efforts to reopen roads and remove obstacles as quickly as possible.
