Meeting at Ministry of Transport discusses problems facing shipping & transport of medicines

 

 

An expanded meeting at the  Ministry of Transport , headed by the Undersecretary for Maritime Affairs and Ports, Captain Muhammad Ishaq, discussed today, Monday, the problems facing importers of medicines , medical supplies during shipping and transporting medicines.

The meeting, in the presence of the Head of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Authority, Dr. Ali Abbas, and the Director of the Pharmaceutical Importers Union, Ibrahim Al Hameli, reviewed the difficulties raised by the Union, including the cessation of shipping and refrigerated transportation of medicines, and the impact of this on the lack of stock of essential medicines that are still stuck in the country of origin.

Undersecretary Ishaq affirmed the Ministry of Transport’s readiness to provide facilities to drug importers in a way that contributes to the provision of quality medicines in accordance with specifications and standards. He pointed out the Ministry of Transport’s interest in medicine shipping and transportation services to ensure that the needs of the local market for medicines and medical supplies are met.

He pointed out the importance of communicating and coordinating with the concerned authorities, especially the Medicine Importers Union, to resolve problems with shipping companies regarding the process of refrigerated shipment of medicines.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Union of Importers of Medicines and Medical Supplies, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Shipping, the Ports Corporation, a number of owners , managers of pharmaceutical import companies, and representatives of shipping companies.
