Meeting Chaired by Acting Prime Minister Muftah Discusses the Transition to Electric Vehicles

A meeting held today in Sana’a, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Muftah, discussed the draft program for replacing fuel-powered vehicles with electric vehicles.
The meeting, which included Acting Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment Sam Al-Bashiri, Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water Adel Bader, and Deputy Ministers of Finance Nasser Al-Hamdani and Transport and Public Works Yahya Al-Sayani, reviewed proposals submitted by the committee formed to implement the project. These proposals addressed the executive steps and the tasks assigned to the relevant authorities.
The Acting Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the project to transition to electric vehicles in reducing the fuel import bill and lowering production and transportation costs.
He also noted the positive impact this would have on the national economy and the availability of affordable goods for citizens, highlighting the project’s importance in environmental protection. Allamah Miftah emphasized the importance of collaborating with the private sector to implement this project in accordance with government guidelines and directives that ensure its success. He affirmed that the government will support this project and provide facilities for the private sector in this regard.
He directed the committee to develop standard specifications for cars, vehicles, and charging stations, as well as the terms, references, and controls for financing mechanisms for economic empowerment projects aimed at converting passenger vehicles to electric vehicles, and to open the door to competition for the private sector.
The meeting approved holding a workshop with the participation of electric vehicle importers to consult on joint steps, including standards and specifications for electric cars, vehicles, and charging stations.
The Director of the General Authority for Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control, Abdullah Al-Atefi, attended the meeting.
