Meeting chaired by Minister Qahim discusses the performance of public works offices and the challenges facing their work

A meeting chaired by Minister of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Qahim today discussed the performance of public works offices and the challenges they face.
The meeting, which included Sana’a Governor Abdulbasit Al-Hadi and leaders of the public works offices in the Capital Secretariat and Sana’a Governorate, reviewed the challenges facing the public works offices and the necessary solutions to overcome them, in coordination between the ministry and local authorities in the governorates.
In the meeting, the Minister of Transport and Public Works addressed the most prominent challenges facing the offices, including the failure to implement the building code, which includes haphazard designs and parking spaces, the failure of designs to take into account earthquake and wind risks, the construction of septic tanks without reference to the specifications specified by the code, and tampering with the number of floors.
He reviewed the problems related to the towers, the failure to remove violations in their infancy, the discrepancies in the projections of sites from one engineer to another, the removal of only some parts of the violation, the failure to follow up on violations referred to the Public Prosecution, the failure to scrutinize and review designs before issuing permits, and the failure to adhere to directives.
Minister Qahim pointed out the failure of some public works offices and their staff to take into account the quality of construction in implementation.
The offices’ performance is limited to issuing permits, some branches’ lack of communication with public administrations, and some technical committees’ lack of harmony with the office administrations.
He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to controlling the performance of public works offices in the governorates and directorates and to deal strictly with anyone proven to have tampered with or violated regulations and laws, in coordination with the leadership of the local authority in the capital and the governorates.
The Minister of Transport and Public Works emphasized the need to include companies and real estate offices in the blacklist, the need to preserve general plans, and to focus on facilitating and simplifying procedures for citizens, as this is one of the most important priorities and goals of the Government of Change and Construction. He also stressed the need to take all the points raised into consideration to avoid any negative consequences for both citizens and the state, praising the performance of some public works offices.
The Governor of Sana’a emphasized the importance of strengthening the capabilities of engineers and technicians working in public works offices and focusing on controlling and improving performance in the field.
He pointed to the importance of discipline and dealing responsibly with citizens, while ensuring compliance with the regulations and laws governing work.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Public Works Office in the Capital Secretariat, Engineer Abdulsalam Al-Jaradi, and the Director of the Sana’a Governorate, Engineer Mohammed Ashiyah, as well as a number of leaders from the Ministry and the Public Works Offices.
