Occupational Safety and Health Training Course Concludes at the Roads and Bridges Authority

A training course on occupational safety and health concluded today at the General Authority for Roads and Bridges.

The five-day course, organized by the Authority’s Vocational Training Center for Roads, aimed to provide safety officers with theoretical concepts of occupational safety and health, and to familiarize them with potential hazards in all workplaces and how to control them.

At the conclusion of the course, Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Hadrami, Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, explained that the course, which is part of the training and qualification plan for the year 1446-2025 AD, is of great importance in enhancing aspects of occupational safety and health, given that the Authority is the state’s most active executive arm in the workplace.

He stated that the course’s objectives also include introducing safety officers to the skills of preparing and writing safety and accident reports, applying safety forms, familiarizing them with the principles of first aid, establishing the organizational structure of the Occupational Safety and Health Department, and preparing its executive regulations. Al-Hadrami pointed out that occupational safety and health is a science that aims to protect workers at all work sites from potential hazards that could cause injury, death, or damage to property at the facility and site.

He emphasized the corporation’s commitment to implementing the procedures, standards, and requirements required to maintain the safety of workers and engineers and ensure a safe work environment free of accidents and injuries.

The course focused on occupational safety and health concepts, information sources, roles and responsibilities, accidents, injuries, and risks in the work environment (construction work, asphalt roads, excavation, and cement work), and the necessary safety procedures for these tasks.

The course program also covered organizing and cleaning the work site, working on roads alongside traffic, slipping and tripping, safety while using equipment and materials, carrying weights, lifting and manual handling, the hierarchy of hazard control, emergency and evacuation plans, personal safety equipment, and other aspects.

The closing ceremony was attended by the corporation’s project managers, Engineer Sadiq Al-Jarbani; Maintenance Engineer Abdul Qader Badi; Bridges and Construction Engineer Adnan Ibrahim; and Administrative Affairs Samir Farhan.
