The Supreme Committee for Emergency Response and Flood Damage is discussing ways to accelerate the pace of rescue efforts for those affected.

The Supreme Committee for Emergency Response and Flood Damage, headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Allama Mohammed Miftah, held its first meeting today, which was devoted to discussing its work paths to accelerate the process of rescuing those affected by floods in the governorates of Hodeidah, Al-Mahwit, Hajjah and Raymah.

The committee discussed the initial concepts of its work plan and its paths so that rescue operations include all affected areas and provide the necessary assistance, in addition to providing the required logistical support through partners, such as the Red Crescent, the Red Cross, and international and local organizations.

The committee approved the necessity for its work parameters to be within the framework of providing rescue services to affected citizens, sheltering displaced persons who lost their homes and providing food aid to the needy, in addition to opening roads in the affected areas in the governorates of Raymah and Al-Mahwit.

The First Deputy Prime Minister stressed the necessity for the committee’s work plan to be based on accurate information about the extent of the damage and the nature of the required interventions, in addition to the available capabilities and resources, and identifying the supporting and backing parties from businessmen and international organizations.
He pointed out the need for the plan to be based on full partnership between central government agencies and local authorities in the governorates and directorates, and for the joint operations room to begin field follow-up, collect the necessary information, and establish a channel for joint communication with stakeholders in all sectors.

He called for the need to activate the role of media awareness to mobilize community solidarity, and also to encourage agencies and bodies that could be used in the future.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Administration and Local and Rural Development Mohammed Al-Madani, Ministers of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Qahim, Finance Abdul-Jabbar Mohammed, Electricity, Energy and Water Dr. Ali Saif, Social Affairs and Labor Samir Bajala, Youth and Sports Dr. Mohammed Al-Mawlid, Information Hashem Sharaf Al-Din, Deputy Minister of Interior Major General Abdul-Majid Al-Murtada, Assistant Minister of Defense Major General Ali Al-Kahlani, Head of the Zakat Authority Shamsan Abu Nishtan, and representatives of a number of concerned and related bodies.
