PM visits Hodeidah Port , reviews its conditions & operation plan

Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor made today,Tuesday, an inspection visit to Hodeidah port.
During the visit, along with the Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Affairs, Dr. Hussein Maqbouli, the Minister of Transport, Abdul-Wahab Al-Durrah, and the Governor of Hodeidah, Muhammad Ayyash Qahim, he was briefed on the progress of work in the port and the steps that were implemented for the full operation of the port according to the capabilities available to it to carry out its vital role in receiving and unloading the goods arriving to it with ease without delay.

They toured a number of the port’s vital facilities, visited the container terminal and the port’s berths, and heard from the head of the Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Muhammad Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, and his deputy, Zaid Ahmed Al-Washli, an explanation about the corporation’s plans and programs to operate the port at its full capacity and the projects that had been implemented, including rehabilitating the incubator hangars and maintaining them, public warehouses, the main roundabout, the container road, and the construction of the generator canopy for the power station and the security fence for the container dock.

In this regard,Bin Habtoor stressed the need to redouble efforts to quickly receive ships and unload their cargo at the port, as it is one of the most important sea ports relied upon to support the national economy.
He also chaired an expanded meeting of the institution’s leadership, which included department directors, during which the conditions of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, the progress of work in its various affiliated sectors, the activity of berths and containers, difficulties, needs, and ways to develop them were discussed.
Dr. Bin Habtoor stressed the keenness to implement Cabinet Resolution No. 26 of 1444 AH approving the matrix of emergency needs of the Corporation, “Hodeida and Saleef ports ” most notably tug boats, incubators, cranes, tongs, tugs, and trailers, to enhance navigational and commercial activity and improve port services through coordination between the Corporation and the Deputy Governor.
Prime Minister for Economic Affairs – Minister of Finance and the leadership of the Ministry of Transport regarding providing the required funding and completing the procedures for purchasing and supplying the needs included in the emergency matrix according to the decision.
In turn, Minister of Transport noted the keenness of the Council of Ministers and its approval of the matrix of emergency needs for the ports of the Red Sea Corporation in Hodeida.
He explained that the memorandum of understanding signed by the United Nations Development Program with the Ministry of Transport of the mercenaries in Aden had a bias against the Yemeni Red Sea ports, as its ports did not include reducing the cost of marine insurance on ships coming to the ports under the control of the mercenary government, in addition to continuing to operate the inspection mechanism for ships in Djibouti.
He added, “We seek, with our own efforts, to maintain and develop the port’s infrastructure , superstructure, and today two contracts were signed with contractors to implement the necessary projects for the port with pure national capabilities.”

For his part, the Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Corporation reviewed the challenges facing the organization’s work, the possible solutions to address them, the needs required to improve navigational services, and the mechanisms used to develop and improve revenues.
He explained that the port’s activity this year witnessed a growth of 52 percent over the year 2022, while the number of ships increased by 75 percent over last year, which requires keeping up with this movement and activity, appreciating the understanding of the Salvation Government and the support of the leadership of the Ministry of Transport for the work requirements of the Ports Corporation.
During the meeting, a visual presentation was presented on the activity of Hodeida Port , the circulation of goods and containers witnessed by its berths.
