Prime Minister Muftah Discusses Performance Issues with Ministry of Transport and Public Works Leadership

 

Acting Prime Minister Muftah, during his visit today to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, inspected the ministry’s operations and those of its affiliated units, as well as the progress of projects included in the ministry’s plan for the year 1447 AH.

During the visit, the Acting Prime Minister met with Minister Mohammed Qahim and a number of the ministry’s undersecretaries and heads of its affiliated departments. Discussions focused on the overall performance of the ministry and its affiliated units, the level of implementation of the annual plan, the difficulties they face, and ways to mitigate these challenges. The aim is to enhance efforts in implementing approved tasks and projects and to streamline procedures related to services provided by the ministry and its offices in the capital and governorates.

The meeting also addressed the ministry’s organizational structure in light of the merger process and the need to complete the merger by the beginning of the year 1448 AH. Additionally, several road projects and aspects of maintenance and repair of damaged main roads were discussed.

The Minister, Mr. Miftah, emphasized the significant responsibility entrusted to the Ministry and its affiliated bodies, given the direct connection of their services to citizens. He pointed out the necessity of giving special attention to appointment procedures and operational procedures in the Ministry’s offices in the capital and governorates, in order to improve performance and provide better services to citizens.

He stressed the importance of continuously fostering a spirit of teamwork, both within the Ministry and in other sectors, due to its positive impact on work levels and achievements. He also noted the commitment to addressing the difficulties facing the Ministry and its offices according to urgent priorities.

The Acting Prime Minister discussed several of the Ministry’s road projects, emphasizing the need to adhere to technical standards and ensure safe and comfortable transportation for citizens, particularly on highways connecting governorates and cities.

He also stressed the importance of facilitating water drainage on all roads to mitigate any negative impacts. He also emphasized the importance of the Survey and Planning sector playing an active role, after its restructuring, in the sound planning of neighborhood units and the creation of necessary projections. He reminded the ministry of the need to review the plans of housing associations, address any discrepancies, and refrain from issuing any building permits in floodplains.

Allamah Muftah directed the ministry leadership to thoroughly review the ministry’s plan for the year 1448 AH, ensuring it includes beneficial projects that address fundamental issues, benefit the community, and alleviate its suffering. He wished the ministry leadership, its affiliated bodies, and its offices in the capital and governorates success in their future endeavors.

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Qahim, expressed his gratitude to the Acting Prime Minister for the visit and his keen interest in closely examining the ministry’s situation and issues.

He affirmed that the ministry will work to implement all directives, including developing plans and neighborhood units covering areas of no less than three to four kilometers. He explained that efforts will be made to resolve the overlapping jurisdictions among the ministry’s offices in the capital and governorates. Minister Qahim reviewed the difficulties facing the work of the ministry and the need for support from the government and the senior leadership, pointing out the need to take into account the situation of the ports and address the problems facing the work of this vital sector.
