Prime Minister Participates in Opening of 12th Training Program for Road Engineers

Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi participated in the opening of the 12th training program organized by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, represented by the Road Maintenance Fund. The five-day program, which is intended for engineers from the Road Maintenance Fund, the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, and representatives of local authorities in the governorates, includes the design and maintenance of pavement layers (indicators, defects, diagnosis, and treatment) and the pavement management system.

The Prime Minister delivered a speech in which he expressed his thanks to the Minister of Transport and Public Works for his efforts and to the leadership of the Road Maintenance Fund for organizing this program.

He explained that roads are the lifeblood of the country and necessarily require continuous maintenance according to technical standards that ensure they do not deteriorate. He highlighted the importance of this training program in developing and enhancing the capabilities of engineers working in this vital field. He highlighted the strategic role of roads in communicating, breaking isolation, and paving the way for development and services to reach various regions.

He emphasized the importance of caring for and maintaining roads and the responsibility of those working in this field.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing the roads most frequently used and serving citizens’ transportation needs during expansion and maintenance.

He pointed out the high cost of road construction, paving, and asphalting, which requires all leaders and workers in this sector to ensure the safe implementation of road projects in accordance with approved standards and specifications, ensuring their durability for the longest possible period. He noted the importance of focusing on the quality of implementation when analyzing tender offers, given its importance in extending the project’s lifespan.

He said, “We must focus on the quality of implementation and on companies with a good reputation and competence in the construction of roads and bridges to ensure quality work and avoid the rapid deterioration that most roads suffer from.” Al-Rahwi addressed the program participants, saying, “When you return to your workplaces, governorates, and directorates, you must focus on the main roads most used by citizens and work to maintain them according to scientific principles and the experience you have gained in your field work.”

He directed the removal of all speed bumps on main roads and within cities due to the traffic accidents they cause, and to maintain only those required by need and necessity, not subject to personal whims and desires, after notifying the competent authority. He hoped the program would achieve its goals and that all participants would succeed in their future endeavors and reflect the knowledge they had gained into practical reality.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mohammed Qahim, and the Chairman of the Road Maintenance Fund, Engineer Nabil Al-Haifi.
