Qatina and Al-Haifi Inspect Maintenance and Rehabilitation Work on the Al-Mahwit – Al-Qanawis Road

Governor of Al-Mahwit, Hanin Qatina, and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works for the Roads Sector, Engineer Nabil Al-Haifi, inspected today the progress of work on several maintenance projects for the main road network in the governorate, including the rehabilitation project for the strategic Al-Mahwit – Al-Qanawis road.
Qataina and Al-Haifi listened to an explanation from the Director of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges branch in Al-Mahwit, Engineer Ahmed Al-Yanai, regarding the level of implementation of the technical work, which includes scraping deteriorated sections, addressing rockfalls, cleaning rainwater drainage channels, and then laying the asphalt layer. He pointed out that the work on the Al-Mahwit – Al-Qanawis road is proceeding concurrently with the cleaning of flood channels and culverts to ensure the road’s readiness during the rainy season. The Governor of Al Mahwit emphasized the importance of these interventions in improving road infrastructure, given the vital role of the Al Mahwit-Al Qanawis road in connecting the governorate to coastal areas and facilitating the movement of citizens and goods.
He noted that the maintenance projects will contribute to reducing traffic accidents and lowering vehicle maintenance costs. He commended the efforts of the Road Maintenance Fund and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges for continuing the work despite the challenges.
For his part, Al-Haifi affirmed that the Road Maintenance Fund is implementing a comprehensive strategy to preserve the road network. He explained that the ongoing routine and emergency maintenance work is part of the Fund’s plan to prevent the deterioration of main roads and extend their lifespan.
He stressed the importance of addressing road shoulders and protecting them from erosion to ensure the sustainability of implemented projects and achieve the highest quality standards.
They were accompanied by a number of officials from the Road Maintenance Fund and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges.
