Taiz: Maintenance work continues on the Mawiah-Al-Hawban Junction-Sofitel Roundabout road

Work is currently underway on the rehabilitation and restoration project for the first phase of the road connecting Mawiah-Al-Hawban Junction to Sofitel Roundabout, funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), at a cost of 520 million riyals.

The Director of the Governorate’s Public Works Office, Engineer Bakil Hamid, explained that the project is being closely monitored by the governorate’s leadership to complete its implementation, given its importance in facilitating traffic and alleviating the suffering of citizens under the current circumstances resulting from the ongoing aggression and blockade. He pointed out that the road project is being implemented by the International Projects Implementation Unit (RPU) and the Road Maintenance Fund, spanning 5.5 kilometers in two phases.

The first phase extends from the Mawiya Junction to the Hawban Roundabout, and the second phase extends from the Hawban Roundabout to the Sofitel Roundabout, in accordance with the required studies and standards. He explained that the project includes the implementation of a full asphalt layer and the repair of potholes.

For his part, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Junaid, a consultant for the RMF International Projects Implementation Unit, explained that the road project took into account the introduction of asphalt to create a three-centimeter asphalt layer in the deteriorated area in front of the factories in Hawban, the repair of potholes in the first section, and the repair of any remaining potholes along the road.

He confirmed the completion of an additional asphalt layer in the second section, from in front of the automated issuance to the 21 September Park, and that all work will be completed by the end of this October.
