Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Coordinator see the extent of damage at Sanaa Airport as a result of the Israeli aggression
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the International Cooperation Sector, Ambassador Ismail Al -Mutawakkil, with the United Nations Resident Coordinator – Yemeni Coordinator in Yemen, visited Julian Harenis today, Sanaa International Airport.
Al -Mutawakkil and Harnes reviewed the extent of the damage to the airport’s infrastructure, following the Israeli aggression that led to the destruction of its buildings, halls, main runways, monitoring tower, electricity systems, radars, navigation devices and the destruction of civilian aircraft.
They listened to the airport administration to an explanation about the destruction of the Israeli aggression raids, the destruction of the airport infrastructure, the disruption of civil and humanitarian flights, and the transfer of patients for treatment abroad.
Al -Wakeel Al -Mutawakkil stressed that targeting Sana’a International Airport is an integrated bankruptcy of the Israeli enemy by targeting a civil facility dedicated to humanitarian and medical purposes, and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which threatens the lives of thousands of civilians.
He explained that the targeting of Sanaa airport is a crime against humanity and a war crime by all accounts.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the United Nations and the international community to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, take urgent steps to stop these violations and ensure the protection of civilian facilities.
For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator expressed his deep concern about the damage to the airport.
He stated that Sana’a airport is a vital facility on which tens of thousands of Yemenis are relied upon to receive treatment abroad, in addition to being a major outlet for the entry and exit of the humanitarian workers.
Harenis pointed out that targeting Sanaa airport is exacerbated by the suffering of patients, and hinders the work of humanitarian organizations, which makes it necessary to work urgently to rehabilitate the airport and ensure its continuity, and avoid targeting it again.
