A meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport discusses the progress of work at the Red Sea Ports Corporation

 

A meeting of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in Hodeidah, chaired by the Minister of Transport, Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, discussed the workflow of the corporation, in line with the requirements of the stage.

 

The meeting, which included the Chairman of the Corporation, Captain Muhammad Ishaq, his deputy, Zaid Al-Washli, and the directors of the concerned departments, reviewed the current situation of the shipping companies and the level of their commitment to the rules and regulations.

 

Al-Durrah listened to an explanation from the head of the Stevedoring Workers Union, Ali Rajeh, about the difficulties facing stevedoring workers and ways to address them, as well as perceptions and proposals to improve performance and unload arriving ships in a timely manner.

 

The Minister of Transport praised the workers’ efforts to unload container ships, despite the absence of gantry cranes and the work being limited to ship cranes.

The meeting also discussed the level of performance of the concerned departments in the Red Sea Ports Corporation, in conjunction with the restoration of the corporation’s activity and the entry of ships to the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, and plans and programs that would activate the tasks and responsibilities of these departments.

The minister listened to an explanation from department directors about plans to activate shipping lines and prepare for the single window project to facilitate procedures for unloading ships and transporting goods to the governorates, as well as addressing some challenges.

In this regard, Al-Durrah touched on a matrix of directives to improve work in the departments associated with shipping companies and the responsibilities entrusted to all departments and sections of the corporation in activating their services to issue licenses and change the work style in line with the requirements of the current situation for the activity of port management and receiving ships.

He stressed the need to activate and update the regulations governing the institution’s work in a way that keeps pace with developments and contributes to upgrading the institution’s role in the administrative aspect and improving its overall services.

The Minister of Transport stressed the need to raise readiness at all levels and increase workers’ shifts to speed up the unloading of ships arriving at the Corporation’s docks.

He called on shipping companies and importers to take advantage of the facilities provided by the Red Sea Ports Corporation to deliver their goods at the lowest cost.

In turn, the head of the Red Sea Ports Corporation reviewed a number of issues related to the workflow in the concerned departments and improving the level of performance in coordination with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport.

He praised the efforts of all departments in the port during the past period, stressing the importance of redoubling efforts to cover the overall work and tasks, especially with the establishment’s transition to a new phase after restoring its activity.
