Discussing the difficulties facing the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in performing its service and humanitarian activities

 

A meeting held , Thursday, 12/2-2021 AD, at the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, which included the Vice-President of the Corporation, Yahya Abbas Sharaf El-Din, and the Deputy Director of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for the Middle East and North Africa, Tariq Talahme, who is currently visiting Hodeidah, discussed the difficulties facing the Corporation in performing its service navigation activities. and humane.

The meeting, in the presence of the Director of the Branch of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Jaber Hussein Al-Razhi, reviewed the requirements of the Hodeidah port in light of the continued aggression and siege.

In the meeting, the Vice President of the Hodeidah Ports Corporation reviewed the efforts, services and facilities provided by the Corporation’s ports to various ships, especially the relief ships of the United Nations and its organizations.

Engineer Sharaf El-Din stressed that most of the relief materials that reach the berths of the Foundation’s ports are in violation of international specifications and standards, and most of them are unfit for use and expired.

He explained that the monitoring and inspection mechanism, which was supposed to work from the port of Hodeidah and not from Djibouti, is a major factor in delaying the arrival of ships to the ports of the Corporation.

He stressed that the continuation of the blockade of the port of Hodeidah is a war crime and a collective punishment for Yemenis.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director General of OCHA for the Middle East for Advocacy expressed his aspiration to achieve these points in coordination with the Supreme Council, in accordance with humanitarian work standards and obligations.

The Deputy Director of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for the Middle East and North Africa stressed the keenness to provide support and work to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis

After that, the Deputy Director General of OCHA for the Middle East for Advocacy and his accompanying delegation visited the container berths in the port of Hodeidah.. where they were briefed on the progress of performance, the extent of destruction and damage to the foundation’s cranes, and the effects on the port of Hodeidah as a result of the aggression and siege.

The meeting and the visit were attended by the Director General of the Office of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nabil Omar Mazhaji, the Director General of the Container Terminal, Captain Mohamed Mahmoud Al-Says, the Yemen Affairs Specialist in the Advocacy Section Alexander Jackson, the Deputy Director of the OCHA Yemen Office for Field Affairs Andrea Sophia, the Deputy Director of the OCHA Yemen Office for Coordination Saeed Hirsi and the Director of the OCHA Al-Hodeidah Office Hazem soldier.
