Meeting Chaired by President of Shura Council Discusses Conditions of Sana’a International Airport

A meeting was held on 22nd February 2020 at Sana’a International Airport, chaired by the President of the Shura Council- Mohammed Hussein Al-Aidarous and

attended by a number of the members, Dr. Mohammed Abdulkader- Chairman of CAMA, Mr. Abdullah Al-Ansi- Deputy Minister of Transport and Mr. Khaled Al-Shaef- Director General of Sana’a International Airport. The meeting which was also attended by the Director of Field Epidemiology Training Program at the Ministry of Health- Dr. Abdel-Hakim Al-Kohlani and the Director of Medical Quarantine at the Ministry- Dr. Majed Ateeq was devoted to discuss the conditions of Sana’a International Airport and the readiness of the quarantine building at the airport.

The President of the Shura Council pointed out that the meeting came within the framework of the Shura Council field activities for the State’s Institutions Committees to inspect their conditions and work to overcome the challenges they face, in order to assist the State’s Institutions in achieving their goals. He also appreciated the President of the Supreme Political Council’s interest in Sana’a International Airport through the concrete achievements that have been made on the reality referring that the continued closure of the airport reflects the aggressiveness of the aggression led by the Saudi regime that smacked the values ​​of brotherhood and neighborhood ties against the wall. Al-Aidarous stressed on the importance of the concerted efforts of the Ministries of Health and Transport in equipping quarantine centers in the air, sea and land ports and the medical precaution for foreign travelers to ensure that the 2019 Corona virus is faced, stressing on the need to coordinate with the relevant ministries and authorities in this regard.

On his part, the Deputy Minister of Transport- Mr. Al-Ansi’s reviewed side of the Ministry’s activities, programs and the development of the work in the transportation sectors, based on the determinants of the National Vision for building the New Yemeni State, the level of performance of the ministry and its affiliated authorities  in the technical and administrative aspects. He also praised the efforts of the cadres of CAMA and Sana’a International Airport, to overcome the difficulties stressing on the airport’s readiness to receive civil flights in accordance with the international standards.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of CAMA reviewed part of the efforts of CAMA and Sana’a International Airport in securing the international air navigation considering the continuation of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Institute work in accordance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization “ICAO” as one of the steadfastness images of the State’s Institutions indicating that three thousand trainees have graduated from the Institute in all the different fields of civil aviation from the various Governorates of the Republic.

In the meantime, the Director General of Sana’a International Airport referred to the airport’s targeting and bombing by the aggression’s air raids, which amounted to approximately 180 direct air strikes with the intention of getting the airport out of readiness and paralyzing its air navigation movement, in addition to 500 raids on the airport’s campus. Al-Shaef also stressed that Sana’a International Airport provides air navigation services in accordance with the international standards of ICAO, pointing to the coordination aspects with the Ministry of Health, especially with regard to the formation of a joint operations room. He noted the rapid response of the Ministry of Health to confront the Corona virus by taking measures, including evaluating the airport’s quarantine building; indicating that the airport has implemented precautionary measures to counter this virus by the establishment of a clinic in the airport’s lounge to screen passengers. He expressed regret for the non-seriousness of the international community in reopening the airport.

The members of the Shura Council confirmed the keenness to strengthen the cooperation relationship between the Shura Council, Sana’a International Airport and the Ministry of Public Health to activate the precautionary measures to counter the Corona Virus, especially in light of the continued blockade and aggression. To that, the President of the Shura Council and a number of Council members checked the sections of the quarantine building at the airport and listened from the Director General of the airport to a clarification on the mechanism of quarantine work in the airport’s campus, methods of sorting cases and the building’s needs of equipment and supplies. The President of the Shura Council also inspected the lounges of the Airport, praising the steadfastness of the airport cadres in carrying out their tasks and carrying out their assigned tasks despite the aggression’s endeavor to paralyze the international air navigation services of the airport.
