Minister of Transpor stresses importance of rehabilitating Taiz & Hodeida airports

Minister of Transport Abdulwahab Al-Durra stressed the importance of rehabilitating Taiz and Hodeida International Airports and Hodeida Port due to their strategic, humanitarian and economic importance in providing services to the Yemeni people.

Minister of Transport explained during his meeting on Tuesday with the United Nations Development Program UNDP Resident Representative, “Zena Ali Ahmad”, that the airports of Taiz and Hodeida are out of operational readiness due to the destruction of the aggression warplanes of all facilities, buildings, devices and technical equipment at the two airports.

He pointed out that Sana’a International Airport provides its navigational services to international organizations of the United Nations and other organizations operating in Yemen, and Yemeni travelers through one destination, which has not contributed significantly to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Minister Al-Durra urged the United Nations Development Program to implement the Stockholm Agreement in the rehabilitation of Hodeida Port according to the modernization, development and evaluation plan submitted by the two Dutch experts specialized in the field of ports.

He pointed out that the purchase of pre-agreed bridge cranes is one of the priorities for the port’s work to continue providing its humanitarian and navigational services. He wondered about the reasons for the unjustified delay in the purchase of cranes and the rehabilitation of the port.

He stressed the need to speed up the maintenance of equipment, berths, boats and other devices necessary to restore the dynamism of work in the port of Hodeida..
He pointed out that the program implemented projects in other ports that were not bombed and destroyed, the first of which was implemented in the port of Hodeida.

While the Undersecretary of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, Raed Jabal, reviewed the size of the destruction, which was inflicted on the Taiz and Hodeida airports by the aggression coalition, causing their departure from service and preparation completely.

He stated that the authority has plans to rehabilitate Hodeidah and Taiz international airports and needs support to implement those strategic plans and re-operate the two airports as required and according to the conditions in force at the world’s airports and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

For her part, the representative of the UNDP stressed keenness to implement what was agreed upon in the port of Hodeida.
She pointed out that the work of the programme depends entirely on the volume of resources it receives from donor countries to implement projects. She stressed the work to meet the needs of Hodeida port and Taiz and Hodeida international airports during the coming period.
The meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for the Air Transport Sector Abdullah Al-Ansi, the Director of Projects at the Civil Aviation Authority Dr. Faraj Bathar, and the Deputy Resident Representative Nahed Hussein, discussed issues related to the rehabilitation of Taiz and Hodeida airports and the necessary needs of Hodeida port.
