Minister of Transport stresses the need for the SAFER replacement ship to conform to the specifications

Minister of Transport Abdel-Wahab Al-Durra stressed the need for the replacement ship for the Safer floating tank to conform to the standards and specifications agreed upon between the supervisory committee for the implementation of the Safer Agreement and the United Nations in March 2022.

During his meeting  at the Maritime Affairs Authority in Sana’a, the Minister of Transport affirmed that the United Nations must abide by and implement what was previously agreed upon regarding the replacement ship for the Safer in terms of specifications and efficiency, so that the unloading process takes place easily and smoothly, and to avoid any catastrophic repercussions.

He indicated that the replacement ship should be equivalent to the Safer tank and capable of receiving and exporting oil.

He pointed to the role of the Maritime Affairs Authority in preserving the Yemeni territorial waters and the marine environment and the security and safety of navigation for ships transiting Yemeni waters in cooperation with the naval forces and the Yemeni Coast Guard.

He considered the decision of the Supreme Political Council to transfer the General Authority for Maritime Affairs to the capital, Sana’a, in November 2022, as a step in the right direction to preserve the country’s marine wealth. He stressed the need for cooperation to improve and develop the work of the authority in line with the next stage, as well as the international and local laws in force.

In turn, Acting Head of the Maritime Affairs Authority, Zaid Al-Washli, affirmed that the decision to relocate the authority to the capital, Sana’a, will achieve the desired goals, pointing out that the authority will work professionally in order to improve and develop work and preserve Yemeni waters and safety of navigation.

He touched on the Authority’s future plans to activate its role in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities.

While the director of the authority’s branch in Hodeidah, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mushki, pointed out the importance of the role of the authority and its branches in the governorates in protecting the marine environment and preserving marine resources.

The meeting, in the presence of a number of directors of the authority, discussed topics related to the tasks of the authority, as well as the administrative, technical and financial aspects to enhance and develop its work
