Qahim and the two deputy humanitarian coordinators of the United Nations and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights inspect the conditions of the port of Hodeida

The Governor of Al-Hodeida Governorate, Muhammad Ayyash Qahim, and with him the two Deputy Humanitarian Coordinators of the United Nations in Yemen, Diego Zorrilla and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Safir Al-Din Sayed, inspected, on Monday 20-12-2021 AD, the progress of work in the port of Al-Hodeida.

Qahim, Zorila, and Safir al-Din, from the Vice President of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Engineer Yahya Abbas Sharaf al-Din, listened to the advantages that the port of Hodeida enjoys over the rest of the Yemeni ports, in terms of location, proximity, and the low cost of transportation from it to the rest of the other governorates, and the siege that the port suffers from by the aggression The US-Saudi blockade violates international laws and agreements, pointing to its disastrous repercussions on the lives of the Yemeni people, who have been suffering from aggression and a comprehensive siege for seven years.

“The port of Hodeida was created to serve the country and the citizen, and to provide humanitarian and relief services to the Yemeni people,” he said.

Eng. Sharaf El-Din expressed regret that the United Nations has not implemented the Hodeida port rehabilitation project so far, although this is one of the main axes stipulated in the Stockholm Agreement.

He called for pressure on the coalition of aggression to quickly lift the unjust siege on the Yemeni people, who are suffering the greatest human tragedy in history, and to allow container ships to enter the port of Hodeida.

Governor Qahim touched on the humanitarian aspects of the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression and the siege imposed by the countries of the coalition of aggression through maritime piracy that they practice in detaining and preventing the entry of oil, pharmaceutical and food derivatives ships for the Yemeni people to the port of Hodeida despite obtaining permits from the United Nations.

He stressed that despite the agreements and repeated visits to the United Nations missions, the port of Hodeida is still closed, stressing the need to lift the blockade and allow the entry of oil derivatives ships that are detained at sea, as it is one of the necessary needs.

Pointing out the need for everyone to assume the responsibility to alleviate the suffering of the citizen in light of the continued aggression and siege.

He stressed the keenness of the governorate leadership and the local authority to provide all facilities to international partners and organizations operating in the governorate.

In turn, the Deputy Coordinator Zorella pointed out the importance of joint work in providing emergency needs and development projects and developing adequate solutions with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and providing their necessary needs.

He affirmed the commitment of international and international organizations in providing humanitarian support that touches members of society.

He praised the cooperation of the leadership of the local authority, the Supreme Council branch and the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation… stressing full readiness to support humanitarian efforts and solve all difficulties.

They were accompanied during the visit by the Director of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Jaber Hussein Al-Razhi, and a number of directors general of the foundation’s departments.
