Replying to Saudi complaint, FM sends letter to Security Council
Foreign Minister on Monday said that Saudi Arabia leads a coalition that has been waging unjust aggression on Yemen for six years.
“It is ironic,” Hisham Sharaf started a letter sent to the President of the UN Security Council, in reply to a complaint filed by the Saudi state regarding the army and popular committees’ attack against Abha airport, claiming that Sana’a ‘s attack is a violation of the international law.
The Saudi complaint has ignored and even forgot that since March 26, 2015, the Saudi air forces have led a hostile military coalition against all Yemeni territories, using all types of weapons, including the internationally prohibited ones and committing the most heinous crimes against the Yemeni people.”
The Saudi State and its coalition imposed, and is still doing, an all-inclusive blockade as a collective punishment against the Yemeni people, through which they detain the ships loaded with fuel, domestic gas, and food, causing a humanitarian catastrophe that is the worst in the world, according to the reports of the UN and many international and regional organizations, he said.
“What is really surprising in the complaint is the Saudi hostile state upholds its right to defend its territories and its citizens, and at the same time it forgets the similar rights of others.” He described the Saudi move as “a failed attempt” to hide the truth everyone knows that Saudi Arabia is the one that interferes in the Yemeni internal affairs for its special reasons and agenda.
The Foreign Minister affirmed that the political leadership in Sana’a, represented by the Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government, is serious in its calls for peace.
He stressed that the political leadership takes the recent international diplomatic moves seriously, especially the calls of US President Joe Biden, the European position, and the endeavors of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, aiming to end the war and lift the comprehensive siege on Yemen in preparation for a political settlement and sustainable peace.
To succeed such diplomatic moves, Sharaf said it is essential to create the appropriate climate and complete confidence-building measures, the most important of which is the immediate mutual ceasefire and lifting the comprehensive blockade.
