The Ministry of Transport is discussing the executive matrix for the rehabilitation of the Hodeidah port

Today’s meeting in Sana’a, chaired by Minister of Transport Zakaria Al-Shami, discussed the executive matrix for the rehabilitation of Hodeidah port, according to the agreement between Yemen and the United Nations Development Program early last year.

The meeting, which included Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports, Khaled Al-Nimr, the head of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Muhammad Abu Bakr Ishaq, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Sanaa Oki Lotsma, and the head of the Peace Support Team Natasha Van Reijn, to the plan submitted by the program for the agreed projects with priority Rehabilitation of the Hodeidah port for the first stage, which included the equipment, equipment, bridge cranes, electrical stations and maintenance destroyed by the aggression.

The Minister of Transport stressed the need for speedy completion and transition from plans and programs to implementation and implementation on the ground during the current year.

He said, “The evaluation, studies and development of plans by international organizations takes a longer time than implementation, while the opposite is required, especially in light of the availability of capabilities and support for them by the supporting countries. On our part, we have provided all facilities to the Dutch experts and technicians who were brought in by the development program to assess and study the needs of the port of Hodeidah.”

In turn, the President of the Red Sea Ports Institution explained that the Ministry of Transport represented by the corporation presented to the development program early last year an integrated matrix of the necessary needs of the port supported by graphs and technical maps in order to accelerate the implementation without the need for study and evaluation again because the first stage is critical and requires implementation as soon as possible.

Ishaq pointed out that the port of Al Hudaydah is currently working with human efforts over the course of 24 hours and with very limited capabilities in unloading ships arriving at the port’s dive loaded with food and medicine.

For his part, the representative of the United Nations Development Program in Sanaa affirmed that the current year will witness implementation on the ground, praising the facilities provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in all the fields that are required of them.

He pointed out that the first stage of the rehabilitation and operation of the port of Hodeidah includes the repair of two bridges, destroyed by the aggression, after targeting the port and the purchase of two new cranes with the assistance of the German government, in addition to the maintenance of equipment and electrical appliances as contained in the agreement.
