The Resident Representative of the UNDP to Yemen visits the port of Hodeidah

 

A meeting was held at the headquarters of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in Hodeidah port on Wednesday 3/24/2021 AD, which included the CEO of the Foundation, Captain / Muhammad Abu Bakr Ishaq, the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yemen, Mr. Aoki Lutsma, the director of the program office in Hodeidah Governorate, Mr. Adnan Shima, and the director Projects in the port of Hodeidah Mrs. Catherine Kapothia The projects that the program will implement during the year 2021 AD in the corporation, especially with regard to what was destroyed by the aggression in the port of Hodeidah, its rehabilitation and development, according to what was included in the matrix of priority projects agreed upon between the Foundation and the Development Program.

The meeting dealt with the reasons for delaying the purchase of cranes and bridge cranes, maintenance of equipment and devices, electrical works, repairs of the sea berth, and the basic requirements of technical maintenance and operating equipment.

In the meeting, Captain / Ishaq indicated that despite the facilities and technical and professional advice provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Corporation for the Development Program to implement development projects for the port of Hodeidah, unfortunately nothing has been implemented of them so far, and he pointed out that the main axis of the Stockholm Agreement was the restoration of the port of Hodeidah However, the UN organizations’ role was limited to visits, meetings and correspondence without real implementation.

He expressed hope that the implementation of the projects will start in the current year 2021, especially after the technical studies of these projects have been completed for a long time.

He noted the marine services provided by the port of Hodeidah to the United Nations organizations as well as the humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen, and it works around the clock with self-efforts as a substitute for the machines that the aggression bombed.

Stressing that the matrix of development projects for the corporation’s ports corresponds to the priorities of the actual need plan in line with the humanitarian role it plays, which is the introduction of basic and necessary aid and materials to the Yemeni people and alleviate their suffering in light of the catastrophic conditions they are going through.

Stressing the need for the development program to play a greater role and be at the level of responsibility assigned to it by the Stockholm Agreement in recovering the humanitarian situation that is increasing day by day and the tragic effects caused by the aggression on the institution from the systematic destruction of the infrastructure and superstructure of its ports not to mention the suffocating blockade and detention of oil ships and preventing Its arrival to the port of Hodeidah, including what has reached the year without any action from the United Nations and its organizations, which have been watching only and do not condemn such practices outside the laws and international and humanitarian conventions.

In his turn, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yemen affirmed that the UNDP had fulfilled its promises to implement priority projects in the port of Hodeidah within the first phase and to search for funds for what remained of it and indicated that the program will start implementing what was agreed upon with the Foundation .

Lotsma praised the Foundation’s leadership’s cooperation with the Development Program and the United Nations organizations in providing facilities and contributing to the implementation of their own projects.

The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yemen and his accompanying delegation paid a field visit to the container terminal in Hudaydah Port, during which he was briefed on the extent of the damage caused to the bridge cranes for handling containers by the brutal US-Saudi aggression.

He also inspected the progress of work in the incubators’ hangar and the rehabilitation work that is taking place in it by the program . The training and rehabilitation center was also visited to view the equipment available in it, which was carried out through the program at an earlier time.
