Targeting civilians in Yemen is an unjustifiable tragedy: Grande
The UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, described the raids targeting civilians in Jawf province as “terrible.”
Grande said initial field reports indicate that 31 civilians were killed and 12 wounded as a result of raids that hit al-Haija area of al-Maslub district in Jawf province, Grande said in a statement received by Saba on Sunday.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and call for a speedy recovery for all those injured in these terrible raids,” she said.
“Many people are being killed in Yemen and this is an unjustifiable tragedy,” she said, stressing that parties resorting to the use of force are obliged to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.
“Five years of this conflict have passed and the belligerents are still unable to take this responsibility. This is shocking.”
