PM: “Continued ban on Sana’a airport is blatant violation of international , humanitarian laws & treaties”

Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi emphasized that the continued ban imposed by the US-Saudi Emirati aggression coalition on Sana’a International Airport and the limitation of flights to one destination is a blatant violation of international , humanitarian laws and treaties.

This came during his participation in the event organized by the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology today on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day under the title “On December 7 of each year, the world celebrates International Civil Aviation Day, while the aggression bombs, destroys and besieges Yemeni civil airports in violation of all international laws, treaties and conventions.”

The Prime Minister referred to the continuous bombing of Sana’a International Airport by the aggression coalition since March 26, 2015, and the efforts made to restore its readiness on an ongoing basis.

He pointed out that the aggression coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, must lift the ban on Sana’a International Airport completely. He explained that the situation today is different from what it was before, as Yemen today possesses the strength that enables it to extract its legitimate rights.

“The Americans, the British and the Israelis do not want the region to calm down, and they will not leave it unless one condition is met, which is the awakening of the nation from its slumber , reading the reality of things and what its enemies are planning,” Al-Rahwi said.

“We saw yesterday that the aggression against Lebanon was stopped, only to start on the second day against Syria because it is a resistance country, as well as to cut off the supply between it and Hezbollah, which will not be possible for them because the axis of resistance has moved and things will turn against the aggressors against the Syrian people, God willing,” he added.

The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Transportation and the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology to exert more efforts to fully lift the blockade on Sana’a International Airport.

For his part, Minister of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Qahim pointed out that the celebration of this day aims to highlight the importance of civil aviation and its role in global development, and to promote awareness of its importance among countries.

He stressed the need to redouble efforts to keep pace with modern developments in accordance with international standards stipulated in the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

Minister Qahim discussed the damage to the infrastructure of Yemeni airports as a result of the aggression and blockade. He emphasized the government’s support to implement the priorities and ambitions according to the available capabilities, based on the Revolution Leader directives and the President of the Supreme Political Council.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works – Chairman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority Yahya Al-Sayani emphasized that this day represents an opportunity to highlight the importance of the civil aviation sector as a key pillar of global communication and sustainable development.

“Despite the blockade imposed on our airports, our qualified cadres continue to maintain the safety and security of civil aviation in accordance with international standards,” he said. He explained that the blockade imposed on Sana’a International Airport, which reduced its operations to limited flights, caused great human suffering and led to a disaster that the international community described as an “unforgivable crime.”

He called on the international community and the United Nations to pressure the aggressor countries to end the unjust blockade and rebuild what the aggression destroyed in the civil aviation sector, whose losses exceeded more than seven billion dollars.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works also called on international and Arab airlines to resume flights to Sana’a International Airport as a humanitarian step to lift the siege on the Yemeni people. He emphasized that the civil aviation sector will remain steadfast thanks to the efforts of its employees.
