The “Ports Wars” conference begins at Ibb University with the participation of the Ministry of Transport

At Ibb University, the activities of the International Conference “War of Ports.. Armed Conflicts and the Struggle for Influence in the Balance of International Law” began.

The conference, organized by the Arab Democratic Center in Berlin, Germany, in cooperation with Ibb University and the Mediterranean Center for International and Participatory Studies and Research – Mohammed V University in Morocco, will discuss over two days a number of working papers submitted by 30 researchers from Yemen, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Iraq.

At the opening of the conference, Minister of Transport Abdel Wahab Al-Durra, in his speech via video technology, indicated the importance of holding this conference and the subsequent activities in this aspect.

He pointed out that the ports war led by the forces of aggression for eight years has greatly affected import and export to and from Yemen, indicating that there is international competition for ports of strategic importance, including the Yemeni ports, which have a distinct geographical location in the region and on global trade lines.

Minister Al-Durra touched on the historical background of the attempt to seize Yemeni ports by the colonial countries, the Dubai Ports Company, and others.

He pointed out that the port war is currently represented in the aggression against Yemen and the attempt to plunder its wealth and seize its ports, evidenced by the UAE presence in Socotra and other Yemeni islands.

And the Minister of Transport indicated that the Yemeni land, air and sea ports were bombed as part of the malicious efforts to impose the siege on the country… addressing the effects of the unjust siege aimed at subjugating the Yemeni people.

For his part, the governor of Ibb Abdul Wahd Salah praised the efforts made in preparing for this conference, urging everyone to enrich it with discussion and working papers and to come up with recommendations according to practical foundations and methodology.

He stressed that the Yemeni people will continue to stand firm in the face of the forces of aggression and thwart their plans to control Yemeni ports and international navigation.

While the President of Ibb University, Dr. Tariq Al-Mansoub, explained that holding this conference in what the world is witnessing is competition to control shipping lines and international trade, including Yemeni ports, which requires vigilance and strengthening cohesion to confront the forces of aggression and their ambitions aimed at controlling ports.

The conference president, Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Bashir Al-Emad, addressed the objectives of the conference by studying the causes and tools of conflicts and conflicts in the world in order to control ports and navigation and the effectiveness of international law texts in limiting them.

 

At the conference, two speeches were delivered by the Director of the Mediterranean Center for Studies and Research, Dr. Ahmed Al-Wadghiri, and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Karim Ayesh, who pointed out the importance of the topic addressed by the conference in light of competition and conflicts over the control of ports.

 

The inauguration was attended by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Falahi, the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Fouad Hassan, and a number of academics and researchers.
