A meeting headed by Al-Sami’i discusses the attacks on the Taiz airport campus

A meeting at the Ministry of Transport, headed by a member of the Supreme Political Council Sultan Al-Sami’i, discussed the attacks and unplanned indiscriminate construction on the campus and lands of Taiz International Airport.

The meeting, which included Minister of Transport Amer Al-Marani, deputy for  the Air Transport Sector Abdullah Al-Ansi, Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Abdul Qadir, Assistant Undersecretary for the Airports Sector Yahya Al-Kahlani and Ministry Counselor Muhammad Al-Sharif, touched on the attacks on the lands of the Taiz Airport campus and the efforts of the local authority in the governorate to protect the airport’s land and property.

The attendees reviewed the report of the committee in charge of field visits to the airport and its recommendations to lead the ministry to solve the problems with its properties and lands in its geographical surroundings in the governorate.

The meeting focused on the extent of the damage suffered by the airport as a result of direct aggression’s targeting of its various facilities.

At the meeting, a senior political member stressed the need to preserve the campus and lands of Taiz Airport, in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

He stressed the need to rehabilitate the airport due to its strategic importance and geographical location.

Al-Sami’i praised the efforts of the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and its bodies and institutions in promoting the various transport sectors.

For his part, the Minister of Transport affirmed the ministry’s endeavor to develop and modernize the airport sector despite the circumstances of the aggression and the siege, which seeks to paralyze air traffic in Yemen in general.

Minister Al-Marani praised the role of the local authority in Taiz and its preservation of the airport’s sanctuary, properties and lands… pointing to the ongoing aggression against the airport due to its strategic importance and its navigational services.

While the Chairman of the Board of Directors stressed the Authority’s keenness to rehabilitate Taiz Airport because of its importance in moving the wheel of development in Taiz and the neighboring governorates.. He reviewed the efforts to rehabilitate the airport and protect it from attacks and random construction that affects the safety and security of aviation and air navigation in general.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors called on the relevant authorities to cooperate and work in a team spirit to preserve the airport’s campus and lands.

In addition, the Director of the Airports Sector, Amin Jamaan, stated that the authority, represented by the Airports Sector, organized two workshops to define the precincts of the airports and reduce obstacles, restrictions and building requirements around them to protect the airports’ premises and lands.

He said, “A committee was formed from the Aviation Authority and the relevant authorities and went to the governorate to determine the territory of Taiz Airport, during which marks were placed on the forbidden area.

In turn, the director of Taiz Airport, Nabil Shamsan, reviewed the problems of the airport’s sanctuary and lands from attacks and indiscriminate construction by citizens and the lack of detailed plans for the area.

He pointed out that the airport was subjected to systematic destruction by the aggression warplanes, which has taken it out of technical readiness since October 2015 with damage to the halls, navigation devices, equipment, fire trucks and various airport facilities
