A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports

The Board of Directors of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, in its meeting today headed by Minister of Transport Zakaria Al-Shami, discussed the level of implementing the precautionary measures to confront the Corona virus in accordance with the decisions of the Higher Ministerial Committee for Combating Epidemics.

 

The meeting, which was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime and Ports Affairs, Khaled Al-Nimr, Deputy Ports Authority Yahya Abbas and members of the Council, approved the implementation of the executive regulations for precautionary measures to confront Corona in seaports, which was approved by the Higher Ministerial Committee for Epidemics last Tuesday headed by the Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of representatives of the relevant authorities.

 

The list includes several points, the most prominent of which are the coming of all ships coming to the Yemeni Red Sea ports to quarantine by external diving for the port for a period of not less than 14 days from the date of the departure of those ships to the last port and the implementation of inspection procedures by the Health Office in Hodeidah Governorate on the ship’s crew while they are in the draft and other Measures to address this pandemic.

 

The meeting reviewed the technical and administrative aspects of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the mechanism for improving performance, which contributes to revitalizing field work in ports and meeting the needs of the Yemeni people with food and medicine oil derivatives.

 

The meeting touched on the difficulties facing the work and activities of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in light of the aggression, the siege, and the seizure of commercial ships at sea, despite their inspection in Djibouti and obtaining entry permits by UNIFEM to the port of Hodeidah.

 

At the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed the importance of strengthening precautionary measures in the seaports to confront the Corona virus.

 

He stressed the need to enhance societal awareness of the seriousness of the virus and ways to prevent it … urging the leadership of the Ports Corporation and its personnel to adhere to preventive measures and cooperate with the relevant authorities in examining and sterilizing ships and contributing to facilitating the entry and unloading of ships.

 

Al-Shami Minister pointed out the pressure and delay experienced by commercial ships by the Saudi aggression alliance as a punitive measure for the marine commercial companies that own the ships, which increases the financial burden on citizens.

 

In turn, the head of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Institution, Captain Muhammad Abu Bakr Ishaq, explained what the Foundation had taken in terms of proactive steps to confront the Corona virus and implement the decisions of the Higher Ministerial Committee to Combat Epidemics.

 

He pointed out that the establishment works to keep the ships in the draft for a period of 14 days according to international standards, and medical staff from the governorate’s health office descended on the ships to carry out checks and medical checks on their crews before entering the sidewalks.

 

Captain Ishaq referred to the establishment of a quarantine center in the Medical Center for Workers and Sailors of Ships in Al-Hodeidah Port, and he conducted awareness workshops for employees and workers on the symptoms of Corona virus and ways to prevent it.

 

He affirmed the commitment of the Yemen Red Sea Ports Authority to international laws and covenants through the International Maritime Organization “IMO” of the United Nations, in addition to obtaining the international code “ISPS” certificate … indicating that ships do not enter the port unless after obtaining a permit from the United Nations Office For protection and inspection.
