A vigil at Sana’a International Airport on the occasion of the International Day of Civil Aviation

The Ministry of Transport and the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology organized at Sana’a International Airport a vigil on the occasion of the seventh World Civil Aviation Day on December 7.

The participants in the stand denounced the continuing shameful international silence regarding the violations, killing and bloodshed of civilians by the countries of the coalition of aggression led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

In the stand, in the presence of the deputy of the Ministry of Transport for the Air Transport Sector, Abdullah Al-Ansi, and the President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the deputy of the Authority, Raed Jabal, pointed to the continuation of the aggression coalition in destroying civilian airports and their infrastructure in full view of the international community, including the United Nations, the Security Council and the Aviation Organization International Civil.

He said, “Our stand today marks the International Day of Civil Aviation, as Yemen is a member of the Civil Aviation Organization “ICAO” and a signatory to the International Convention on Civil Aviation, Chicago 1944, which criminalizes and prohibits any attack or targeting of civil airports, as they are civilian facilities that provide services to the general public.”

Jabal indicated that the occasion of the World Aviation Day comes while the Yemeni people have been suffering from aggression and siege for nearly seven years by the coalition of aggression.

In turn, the Director General of Sana’a International Airport, Khaled Al-Shayef, stressed that the stand is a message to the world that celebrates the International Day of Civil Aviation, with the Yemeni people and their civilian airports subjected to continuous bombardment and a suffocating siege.

He explained that Sana’a airport has been subjected to continuous bombardment since the beginning of the aggression by the aggression coalition aircraft, in violation of international conventions and covenants that prohibit striking civilian facilities.

Al-Shayef pointed out that Sana’a Airport provides navigation services to United Nations aircraft, its organizations and international organizations operating in Yemen, while the Yemeni citizen is deprived of travel, which has caused a humanitarian disaster.

A statement issued by the sit-in, read by the Authority’s spokesman, Director of Air Transport, Dr. Mazen Ghanem, stressed that the targeting of Sana’a International Airport by the countries of the coalition of aggression on a daily basis threatens the security and safety of United Nations aircraft and international organizations.

He blamed the countries of the coalition of aggression for any consequences that may befall the security and safety of these planes, noting that the countries of the world celebrate this day with freedom and ease of movement of their citizens by air, while the Yemeni citizen is besieged and 20 to 30 patients die every day because they are unable to travel for treatment abroad or do not have access to medical treatment. Medicine that is transported by air.

The statement pointed out that the world celebrated this day by signing the “Chicago 1944” Civil Aviation Agreement, while the convention, laws, legislation and international charters are being violated by the countries of the coalition of aggression in Yemen in front of the eyes and the silence of the world and international organizations.

The statement also stressed that despite the violations and crimes of the aggression against the Yemeni people and their obvious capabilities and property, the Security Council and the International Civil Aviation Organization failed in their international obligations to take a responsible decision to criminalize the bombing and targeting of civilian airports, or even to issue a binding decision to lift the illegal siege imposed on Sana’a International Airport.

And he indicated that what the countries of the coalition of aggression are promoting about the false allegations that Sana’a International Airport has become a military barracks, but its aim is to mislead world international opinion and international organizations and the pretext of continuing to target the airport on a daily basis in an attempt to impede international efforts and movements seeking to lift the ban on Sana’a International Airport.
