Cabinet condemns US presence off Yemen coasts, Bab al-Mandab
The Council of Ministers, in its meeting on Saturday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, condemned the intense US presence off the Yemeni coast and Bab al-Mandab area, which represents a lifeline for the world economy.
The Council considered the presence of US forces in the coasts and territorial waters of the Republic of Yemen and some military bases “a hostile act that will have catastrophic effects on the region and the world,” noting that this presence is a result of the aggression and blockade of the United States of America on the people of Yemen since March 2015 until the present moment.
The Cabinet indicated that the presence of American and Zionist forces in the Red Sea threatens maritime navigation security and aligns with global developments towards ending unipolar domination, with many countries orienting towards the East after they have grown tired of the West’s colonial and arrogant policies.
this context, the Council of Ministers affirmed that the armed forces, represented by the naval forces, are ready to deal with that presence, which harms Yemeni sovereignty and contradicts international laws and norms.
The Council pointed out that the pretexts promoted by the Americans about their presence in this strategic region are pure lies and fraud on world public opinion, stressing that Yemen has sufficient capabilities to secure maritime navigation through Bab al-Mandab, as well as in its coasts, islands, and territorial waters, and to deal decisively with confronting terrorism and terrorists.
At the meeting, the Council reviewed the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, for the government to develop an executive matrix to support the General Authority for Awqaf, which were included in his speech in the expanded meeting that the General Authority for Awqaf held with state leaders on Tuesday, 2 Dhu al-Hijjah 1444 AH, corresponding to June 20, 2023.
In light of its review of the President’s directives, the Council formed a committee headed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Finance, Dr. Rashid Abu Lahoum, with the membership of a number of relevant ministries, to prepare an executive matrix in accordance with the presidential directives.
In its meeting, The council discussed the report submitted by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Hussein Hazeb, on the results of the second conference on the Yemeni islands organized by the University of Hodeida in late May with remarkable Arab participation.
The Council approved the report submitted by the Minister of Oil and Minerals, Ahmed Dares, on the results of the work of the committee formed by Cabinet Order No. (11) of 1444 AH regarding determining the implications of the mercenary government’s leasing of the port of Qishn in Mahra Governorate and the remedies proposed by the committee in this regard.
The Cabinet also listened to a report from the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Abdulmalik Al-Thawr, on the efforts made to promote and market coffee at the international level, explaining in this regard the record achievements achieved by Yemeni coffee in the elite Yemeni coffee auction for the year 2023.
