CAMA :- Minister of Transport discusses the performance of the meteorological sector

Today’s meeting, chaired by Minister of Transport Abdel Wahab Al-Durra, discussed the level of performance in the meteorological sector in the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology and the mechanism for its development and modernization.

In the meeting, which included the Chairman of the Aviation Authority, Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Qader, and the Chargé d’Affairs of Yemeni Airlines, Abdul-Malik Mutahar, the Minister of Transport, Abdul-Wahhab Al-Durra, stressed the importance of issuing a meteorological law to provide the legislative cover for this vital activity.

He explained that the meteorological law currently before the House of Representatives will unify efforts in meteorological activities and methods of monitoring and measurement to ensure the management and direction of this activity in accordance with international scientific standards.

He pointed to the importance of the meteorological sector and the services it provides in the field of meteorology and tracking the state of climate and climatic changes with modest capabilities and qualified Yemeni expertise, technically and professionally.

Minister Al-Durra urged the leadership of the Civil Aviation Authority to develop, modernize and keep pace in the field of meteorology through training and qualification and to provide the necessary needs of the meteorological sector according to the available capabilities.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Qader stressed the importance of the work of the meteorological sector at the local and international levels.. He pointed to the nature of the work of the Authority in the fields of civil aviation and meteorology, which are technical and scientific works of great importance in various aspects of life.

He pointed out that the authority has given the meteorological sector special attention in its plan for the current year, which included important projects to develop the National Center of Meteorology, which works professionally around the clock.

Meanwhile, the assistant undersecretary for the meteorological sector in the authority, Eng. Mohammed Hamid, reviewed the mechanism of work in the meteorological sector and the updates it witnesses, as well as the tasks he performs in following up on weather phenomena and issuing bulletins, alerts and warnings and sending them to the media.

He touched on the achievements made by the meteorological sector in the past period, including the installation of conventional and automatic monitoring stations, some of which work around the clock, and the development and modernization of the National Center of Meteorology.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Undersecretary of the Aviation Authority for the Aviation Safety Sector, Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Taleb, Air Navigation Abdullah Al-Mutawakel, and Director of the Meteorological Sector Hadi Khairan.
