Discussing the Somali government’s aggressions against the continental shelf of Yemen

The technical committee to define the borders of the continental shelf of the Republic of Yemen discussed in its meeting today, headed by Minister of Transport Zakaria Shami, illegal violations that violate the sovereignty and continental shelf of Yemen by the Somali government.

The committee, in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for the air transport sector, Abdullah Al-Ansi and the head of the Technical Committee Mohsen Ramadan, touched on Somali ambitions in the Yemeni regional waters and its internationally recognized continental shelf approved by the United Nations.

The committee also touched on the Somali government’s aggressions by landing illegal maps of the marine promotional sectors and introducing new petroleum sectors in the Socotra Archipelago … considering this a blatant attack on the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen, damaging brotherly and neighborly relations.

The Committee reviewed the documents, marine surveys and diagrams illustrating the borders of the continental shelf of the Republic of Yemen, copies of which are deposited with the United Nations and relevant international organizations.

At the meeting, the Minister of Transport indicated that the Somali government’s infringement of Yemeni regional waters and its continental shelf is the result of ambitions of the various natural resources, and their exploitation of the conditions that Yemen is going through in light of the aggression and the blockade.

He affirmed keenness to follow up the matter to preserve the borders of the Republic of Yemen, sea, land and air.
