Inspecting preparing Hodeida Airport efforts for landing & take-off of test flight

The First Undersecretary of Hodeida Province, Ahmed Al-Bishri, Chairman of the Safer Committee, Zaid Al-Weshali, and a team from the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement “UNMHA” were briefed on Tuesday on the status of Hodeida International Airport and the paths to prepare it for service after eight years of stopping flights.

During the visit, the representative, Al-Bishri, Al-Weshali, and the UNMHA team, from the airport director, Ahmed Tarish, and the specialists, listened to an explanation about the procedures that were taken for the landing and take-off of the first plane scheduled to arrive tomorrow, since the aggression’s warplanes targeted the airport.

They also listened to an explanation about the overall damage to the airport’s infrastructure and the destruction of the reception and arrival halls, the flight runway and service facilities.

The Senior Undersecretary of the governorate stressed the need for the Hodeidah Agreement Support Team to play an effective role in supporting the rehabilitation and maintenance of the damage to the airport to ensure its return to service.

He pointed to the importance of the airport for trade, travel abroad, and transporting patients for treatment, pointing out that the continued suspension of airport services and flights exacerbates the suffering of the people of Hodeidah and neighboring governorates.

While the head of the Safer File Committee stated that the visit aims to examine the arrangements and treatments for the experimental preparation scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, for the landing of a plane coming from Djibouti.

For their part, the team of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement expressed thanks to the leadership of the local authority in the governorate and the Hodeidah Airport for cooperating with the mission in carrying out its tasks, stressing that the visit comes within the framework of inspecting safety procedures to secure the experimental track for the landing and take-off of the aircraft scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
