Land transport: a workshop on standardizing spatial data and information

The Land Transport Regulatory Authority organized in Sana’a a workshop on coordination in order to unify information and spatial data for road and land transport.

The workshop, with the participation of specialists in the relevant authorities, aimed to provide a comprehensive navigation room and a unified database for all stakeholders, and to improve data quality.

In the workshop, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works and Roads for the Roads Sector, Eng. Khaled Bashmakh, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mohammed Al-Hashemi, stressed the importance of the workshop in laying foundations, information and firm data that contribute to the development of land transport fields at the level of the Capital Municipality and the various governorates.

He pointed out the importance of coming up with realistic visions and recommendations that contribute to the advancement of institutional work, each in his field of work and specialization, and applying them on the ground in the field.

Al-Hashemi pointed to the importance of developing and modernizing the field work methodology in accordance with the economic plans and studies that were agreed upon in cooperation with the relevant authorities in all fields, including the field of land transport, to meet the needs of the homeland.

In turn, Walid Al-Wadayi, pointed out the importance of the workshop to lay the basic building blocks in unifying information and spatial data for the development and modernization process and solving problems in stable scientific ways.

He pointed out that the workshop comes within the framework of the spatial data infrastructure project in the Republic of Yemen, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

For his part, the head of the Yemeni Center for Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems, Dr. Khaled Khanbari, affirmed the center’s keenness to keep pace with modern technologies and benefit from them in the development process.

He explained that the center has built an initial database on roads at the level of the governorates of the Republic, pointing out that the first phase of the digital map project for land transport services in the capital aims to develop and improve land transport services.
While the partners’ speech delivered by

the Head of the Main Executive Unit at the Ministry of Transport, Eng. Nazir Al-Dabai, indicated that the spatial data infrastructure project is one of the strategic projects submitted by the Ministry of Transport within its plan for the second phase of the National Vision 1444 AH.
Six working papers were presented in the workshop from the Ministry of Public Works and Roads, the Yemeni Center for Remote Sensing, the General Authority for Land, Survey and Urban Planning, the Roads Maintenance Fund, the General Traffic Administration, and the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges, on aspects of coordination in order to unify information and spatial data for land transport. and roads.

The workshop came out with a number of recommendations and results that emphasized the need to start initiating field work to raise transport routes in the Capital Municipality as a first stage, as well as unifying spatial data information for road and land transport for the relevant authorities within the framework of the project and in line with international standards, contributing to the unification of geospatial data and information and training cadres To increase efficiency, improve services, business, and make location-based decisions.
