Minister Transport stresses importance of private sector’s role in investing in Red Sea ports

Minister Transport in the caretaker government, Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, stressed the importance of the role of the private sector in effective partnership and investment in important economic fields that meet the needs of the Yemeni people.

Minister Al-Durra explained in an expanded meeting ,Monday, at the Ministry, which included the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, that it is the duty of everyone in the government and the private sector to work to improve the level of service provision in the Yemeni Red Sea Corporation’s ports by providing its necessary needs of heavy equipment that facilitates and speeds up… In unloading ships arriving at Hodeida Port and other ports affiliated with the Corporation.

He said, “The United Nations did not fulfill its promises that it committed to in the 2018 Stockholm Agreement to rehabilitate Hodeida port, which was subjected to systematic and deliberate destruction by the aggression coalition’s warplanes, by targeting its bridge cranes, heavy equipment, and infrastructure, to paralyze its maritime navigation movement.”

He praised the role of the private sector in providing part of those needs necessary for the work of Hodeida Port and the full implementation of its tasks.

While Deputy Minister of Transport Mohammed Al-Hashimi stressed the importance of the role of the private sector in developing the national economic sector, which contributes to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

In the meeting, which was attended by the head of the International Cooperation Department of the Humanitarian Affairs Council, Ali Al-Kahlani, the Vice President of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Zaid Al-Washli, the head of the Secretariat’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ali Al-Hadi, his deputy, Muhammad Salah, investors, businessmen, and representatives of the shipping chambers, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports, Captain Muhammad Abu Bakr, confirmed Ishaq said that the Yemeni Red Sea ports are attractive and promising for investment opportunities.

For his part, the head of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Marine Engineer Yasser Ahmed, reviewed the needs of the corporation’s ports, most notably the port of Hodeidah, in terms of gantry cranes and equipment in need of essential maintenance.

While the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Amanat Al-Hadi expressed his readiness to support and provide the necessary needs for Hodeida port and other ports affiliated with the corporation, considering Hodeida port as strategic and important as it provides smooth commercial navigation services.

The meeting touched on the role of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in providing the necessary funding for the projects of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation.
