Starting a course on smart modeling in agricultural meteorological early warning

in Sana’a, a training course on smart modeling in agricultural meteorological early warning and its applications was organized by the meteorological sector in cooperation with the FAO and the European Union.

Over a period of five days, the course aims to provide 17 participants from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Food Security Secretariat at the Ministry of Planning and the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology with scientific and practical knowledge and skills about benefiting from weather and climate information and linking it to agricultural development in raising production and preserving agricultural crops and the importance of an early warning system. One of the disasters that may affect the agricultural sector in general.

At the opening, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Meteorology Sector, Engineer Mohamed Hamid, indicated that the importance of the course is in serving the national economy and agricultural development, indicating that it comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture and Transport represented by the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, given that the weather is of interest to all economic sectors, whether in marine navigation. air and land
He emphasized that a successful early warning system saves lives, property, land and infrastructure, assists the government in planning, saves money and supports long-term sustainability.

Hamid pointed out that the talk of the hour is climatic changes, weather fluctuations and terrain, and the negative repercussions that may result on human societies, economic and financial sectors, and other vital areas.

In turn, the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization “FAO”, in Sana’a, Dr. Libanda, affirmed the organization’s readiness to support the agricultural side in Yemen, in a way that contributes to the development and preservation of agricultural crops.
He pointed to the importance of early warning systems in climate and weather changes and the information issued by the meteorological sector through bulletins.
