The displacement of the “Liebherr Aden” crane to the beginning of container berth No. (6) in the port of Hodeidah

On Tuesday, corresponding to Tuesday 16-5-2023 AD, the operation of removing the bridge crane “Liebherr Aden” took place in the port of Hodeidah, which was directly targeted by the aggression warplanes in early August of the year 2015 AD.

The Director General of the Container Terminal at the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Shawky Ali Murshid, explained that the crane displacement process was intended to take advantage of the space available to connect container ships according to technical standards for ship lengths and tonnages. It is also possible to connect two ships with a length of 130 meters, and give a safer space for movement. Ground equipment for handling containers or general cargo equipment, as well as improving the ability to handle containers by increasing productivity, reducing the time containers remain on the dock, benefiting from the capacity of the container dock, and reducing the time required for the process of entering and docking ships on the container dock.

He noted that the crane displacement, which was carried out through trained and qualified technical cadres from the container terminal staff and the General Administration of Technical Affairs of the Corporation, will contribute to reducing the weight of the gantry cranes on the dock, which constitutes a less load compared to the previous situation, as well as eliminating the risk of friction or contact with the stern of the ships with the hull of the bridge crane during maneuvering. Captain Murshid pointed out that in the event that an external company was used in the displacement process, it would have cost the institution exorbitant sums.

Captain Murshid confirmed that this measure comes within the framework of the corporation’s leadership’s keenness to overcome the obstacles facing the operation of the container terminal, to exploit the infrastructure and superstructures, and to preserve the equipment and mechanisms that serve the operational process in the port of Hodeidah.
