Minister of Transport, UNDP representative discuss projects to rehabilitate Hodeida port

The Minister of Transport, Amer Al-Marani, discussed , with the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program, Oki Lutsma, the projects of the program to be implemented during the current year for the rehabilitation of Al-Hodeida port.

The meeting, in the presence of the Head of the Technical Office at the Ministry of Transport, Abdul Karim Saleh, and the Ministry’s advisor, Muhammad Al-Sharif, touched on the reasons that prevented the purchase of cranes and bridge cranes of importance in the work of the port of Hodeida, maintenance of equipment and devices, electrical work and other basic requirements that were agreed upon between the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the program developmental.

In the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed the importance of rehabilitating the port of Hodeida because of its great importance in providing the needs of the Yemeni people, and the rehabilitation of the port is one of the main axes of the Stockholm Agreement.

He pointed out the importance of focusing on the necessary needs to rehabilitate the cranes and bridge cranes that were destroyed by the aggression in Hodeida port, as it is a priority. He was surprised by the delay in installing the cranes despite their importance to the port, according to the reports of the Dutch experts who were brought in by the program.

The Minister of Transport reiterated that the work of the Hodeida port is humanitarian, denouncing the silence of the Development Program regarding the allegations of the aggression countries of the militarization of the port of Hodeida, despite the program’s repeated visits to the port and ports of the Red Sea Ports Corporation.

He expressed regret that the program did not implement the development projects for the port of Hodeida, despite the facilities and technical advice provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Ports Corporation.

The Minister of Transport touched on the navigation services provided by the Hodeida port to the United Nations and humanitarian organizations around the clock, with self-effort despite the bombing of the machines and preventing the entry of their equipment with the aim of paralyzing the port’s movement.

He stressed the need for the development program to play a greater role in improving the humanitarian situation and alleviating the tragedy caused by the aggression as a result of the systematic destruction of the infrastructure of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, the blockade, and the detention of oil derivatives ships and preventing their access to the port of Hodeida.

For his part, the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program stressed the importance of the port of Hodeida and the need to rehabilitate it and technically operate it to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, pointing out that the program seeks to provide equipment and basic requirements for the port.

The meeting stressed the need to activate the work of the joint steering and supervision committee, which was previously formed by the Ministry of Transport, the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the United Nations Development Program, to facilitate the implementation of projects to restore the port of Hodeida.
