Minister of Transport reveals first flight from Sana’a airport to Cairo

Minister of Transport AbdulWahab Yahya al-Durra has unveiled the first civilian commercial flight from Sana’a to Cairo and the return scheduled for next Wednesday, June 1st, according to the UN envoy’s office in Sana’a.

The UN envoy’s office confirmed the first civilian commercial flight from Sana’a to Cairo and return on June 1st via The National Carrier of Yemen Airways, the transport minister said in a statement to Saba.

He called on the United Nations to double civilian commercial flights to save the lives of patients and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. “The UNITED Nations must double the number of commercial flights by one trip to Cairo per day,” he said.

“Sana’a International Airport can receive all flights of all types and size of aircraft take off and down during the evening after a years-long hiatus due to the airport being bombed by the aggression coalition several times,” he said.

Minister Al-Durra praised Yemen’s technical expertise, which was able to rehabilitate the night lighting system of the main runway during a record period to complete airport readiness and receive flights day and night 24 hours a day in accordance with international requirements in place at international airports
