Minister of Transport stresses the importance of the Red Sea ports to serve 70 percent of the Yemeni people

Minister of Transport, Abdul Wahhab Al-Durra, affirmed that the Red Sea ports serve the vast majority of the Yemeni people at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
During his chairmanship of a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Red Sea Ports Corporation today in Hodeidah, Minister Al-Durra stated that reopening ports and airports without restrictions or conditions has become an urgent demand after more than eight years of systematic blockade.
He praised the efforts of the Red Sea Ports Corporation and its role in keeping pace with the challenges and addressing difficulties in the technical aspects, and preparing plans and programs to raise the operational capacity for the performance of the port of Hodeidah.
He stressed that the return of port activity, especially the port of Hodeidah, will contribute to serving the people of Hodeidah and neighboring governorates and reviving economic and commercial activity.
He pointed to the ministry’s interest in supporting the efforts of the Corporation’s leadership to overcome the difficulties it faces.
He said, “We are going through a stage of challenge in developing the performance of ports that serve more than 70 percent of the Yemeni people, which requires redoubling efforts to activate the role of these ports in serving the people.”
The meeting discussed the national vision projects plan for the year 1445 AH, including the automation project and other programs and projects in line with the aspirations and visions aimed at improving the services of the Corporation and the ports it supervises.
During the meeting, the CEO of the corporation, Captain Muhammad Ishaq, reviewed part of the work that was accomplished during the last period with the single window project, the data center and equipment repair, and the movement of ships entering the berths of the port of Hodeidah.
In a related context, the Minister of Transport, along with the Executive Director of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, visited the data center in the port of Hodeidah, the first phase of which was opened last June.
They listened to an explanation about the importance of the center in enabling the corporation to host equipment for the automation project and to provide information services to the port community, including the single window.
Al-Durra and Ishaq stressed the importance of completing the remaining stages of the project according to the specifications and the approved plan, in implementation of the directives of the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government to pay attention to digital transformation projects in accordance with the goals of the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state.
