A meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport discusses the activation of container shipping lines

A meeting in Sanaa, , Saturday, chaired by Minister of Transport Amer Al-Marani, discussed the mechanism of activating and operating the shipping lines transporting containers to the port of Hodeidah.

The meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime and Ports Affairs Khaled Al-Nimr, the President of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Muhammad Abu Bakr Ishaq, and the Head of the Coast Guard Department, Major General Ibrahim Al-Moayad, reviewed the chances of successfully restarting the shipping lines transporting containers to the port of Hodeidah, and the facilities provided by the Red Sea Ports Corporation. Yemen for merchants, shipping companies and chambers of commerce, which contributes to reducing prices for goods and foodstuffs.

At the meeting, the Minister of Transport referred to the role of shipping line companies in activating and operating container ships loaded with goods and foodstuffs to the port of Hodeidah.

He stressed that the Supreme Political Council’s directives to reduce customs duties to 49 percent of the port’s internal imports are primarily in the service of the citizen, merchants and the public interest.

Minister Al-Marani expressed readiness to address the obstacles that may face the Chambers of Commerce and Navigation, and to provide concessions and facilities to importers of containerized goods through the port of Hodeidah, stressing the need to activate partnership and cooperation between the government and the private sector, to serve the public interest.

In turn, the head of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Ishaq, reviewed the facilities provided to traders and the Chambers of Commerce and Navigation for the entry of container ships to the port of Hodeidah, stressing that the facilities do not exist in the rest of Yemeni ports.

He said, “The Yemeni Red Sea ports are working professionally around the clock, according to international standards, and with high professional and technical expertise in the field of maritime navigation, despite the aggression and siege.”

At the meeting, an agreement was reached between the Ministry of Transport, the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the Chambers of Shipping and Commerce on a mechanism for coordinating the flow of containers to the port of Hodeidah, in order to ensure the activation of work in the port of Hodeidah in providing navigational services.

The meeting was attended by the advisor of the Ministry of Transport, Muhammad Al-Sharif, the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Municipality, Hassan Al-Kbous, members of the shipping chambers, and representatives of shipping companies.
