A meeting discusses the executive matrix for the rehabilitation of Hodeidah port

Minister of Transport Zakaria Shami discussed with Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yemen, Nahid Hussein, and the head of the peace support operation team in the program, Natasha Van Rehn, today, the executive matrix for the rehabilitation of the port of Hodeidah.

The meeting touched on the pledges of the United Nations and the United Nations Development Program to return what was destroyed by the aggression in the port of Hodeidah, which is considered a major axis in accordance with the Stockholm Agreement, in addition to setting a timetable for the implementation of the points agreed upon in previous meetings.

The meeting reviewed the tasks of the committee formed to conduct business and supervision between the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the United Nations Development Program, which includes implementing projects and facilitating the rehabilitation of the Hodeidah port, according to the evaluation of experts and technicians affiliated with the program.

The damage to the infrastructure, devices, equipment, bridge cranes, hangars, and sidewalks in the port was reviewed as a result of its direct and systematic targeting by the aggression coalition.

In the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed the importance of the rehabilitation of the port of Hodeidah, which was delayed despite the availability of the necessary capabilities and support, especially since discussions and negotiations in this regard took a long time.

He pointed to the need to start equipping electrical generators that facilitate the process of unloading ships and providing spare parts to operate equipment of importance to the port’s work and the speed of delivery of the approved cranes.

The Minister of Transport was surprised that the program did not benefit from local cadres and expertise, especially as it carries international qualifications and standards and provides similar services to cadres who were drawn from abroad.

He expressed the hope that the implementation will start during next March, stressing the ministry’s readiness to facilitate the procedures for entering the Dutch experts to install the bridge cranes.

In turn, the Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP referred to the efforts of the program to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people .. Praising the facilities provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in the areas of technical support and evaluation of the extent of harms damage.

While the head of the peace support operation team affirmed the program, the readiness to start the implementation of returning the damaged buildings to the port, clearing the cranes and repairing quay number four and providing some spare parts and electrical generators for the port.

She commended the facilities provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation for the program.
