Discussing the implementation level of the UNDP project matrix for the rehabilitation of Hodeidah ports

A meeting of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in Hodeidah port , Tuesday 19-4-2022 AD, chaired by the Vice-Chairman of the Corporation’s Board of Directors, Engineer Yahya Abbas Sharaf El-Din, discussed aspects related to the matrix of projects submitted by the Corporation to the United Nations Development Program for the rehabilitation of “Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa” ports.

The meeting, which included the Director of the Port Rehabilitation Project at the United Nations Development Program, Katie Kaputhia, touched on what has been accomplished in the matrix, which did not include any development projects in the work of the port of Hodeidah of importance, maintenance of equipment and devices, electricity works and other basic requirements according to the specific time plan that was agreed upon. between the Foundation and the Development Programme.

In the meeting, Engineer Sharaf El-Din stressed the need for the program to fulfill its promises and speed up the implementation of priority projects and provide the necessary needs to rehabilitate what was destroyed by the aggression in the port of Hodeidah, including cranes, bridge cranes, and others.

Considering the delay and procrastination by the program in implementation despite the facilities and technical advice provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Ports Corporation, makes it vulnerable to a loss of credibility.

The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation reiterated that the work of the Hodeidah port is humanitarian and provides its services around the clock with self-efforts, despite the aggression’s bombing of its mechanisms and the prevention of the entry of spare parts for its operational equipment with the aim of paralyzing the port’s movement.

In turn, the director of the port rehabilitation project at the United Nations Development Program explained that the program understands the importance of the port of Hodeidah and the need to rehabilitate it and operate it technically to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.. Katie Kabuthia indicated that the program strives to provide equipment and basic requirements for the port’s operation.
