Discussing ways to address the difficulties facing the heavy transport sector in Hodeidah

A meeting in Hodeidah Governorate, today headed by Governor Muhammad Qahim, discussed the workflow of the heavy transport sector and aspects related to addressing the challenges it faces.
During the meeting, which was attended by the governorate’s undersecretaries, Muhammad Halisi and Ali Al-Kabari, the director of the branch office of the General Authority for Land Transport Affairs, Ahmed Sharaf al-Din, the Chamber of Commerce, Muhammad al-Hatami, and a number of merchants, and included the leadership of the Heavy Transport Owners and Drivers Syndicate and the leadership and representatives of the heavy transport offices in the governorate, Governor Qahim listened to an explanation about The most prominent difficulties facing the Heavy Transport Drivers Union and transport offices.
The governor of the governorate stressed the importance of finding a radical solution to solve all problems, strengthening the role of the Heavy Transport Drivers Union and the relevant parties associated with it, and reconsidering the current situation to improve tasks, services and procedures in coordination with the Ministry, the Transport Authority and the local authority in the governorate.
He stressed the leadership of the union and the relevant offices to work in an organized manner to ensure improved performance and to serve the transportation of goods from the port of Hodeidah to the governorates in a smooth manner without any complications and obstacles.
He pointed out the need to strengthen coordination between the union and transport truck offices and work in accordance with the applicable regulations and laws regulating the workflow in the transport sector without any violations that cause delays in the transport of goods and double the concerns of merchants and citizens.
Qahim directed the leaders and representatives of the union and the offices to prepare a joint mechanism that includes a diagnosis of the current situation in work tasks and procedures, to ensure reaching understandings that contribute to addressing the challenges and removing procedures facing the movement of the heavy transport sector.
He also stressed the need to adhere to the law and order with regard to arranging the situation and organizing the movement of means of transporting goods and foodstuffs from Hodeidah to the rest of the governorates and finding appropriate solutions to the difficulties facing the work of the Transport Authority and the Heavy Transport Office.
The Governor of Hodeidah pointed out the keenness of the leadership of the local authority in the governorate to support the role of the heavy transport sector, stressing the importance of all efforts contributing to simplifying procedures and simplifying transactions for truck drivers in a way that serves the economic sector and keeping pace with the activity of cargo ships entering Hodeidah Port.
While the head of the Heavy Transport Truck Owners and Drivers Syndicate, Abdul Hafez Al-Matari, confirmed that the demands of the union members are to implement the turn system for trucks, as it represents an ideal means and a more appropriate procedure for organizing the movement of goods from Hodeidah.
The meeting came out with a number of decisions, including the formation of a committee to develop a mechanism to address heavy transport problems and define tasks.
