Holding the consultation meeting between the public, private and mixed sectors in Hodeida

 

the first consultative meeting between the public, private and mixed sectors was held in the Hodeida governorate, “the Chambers of Commerce and the Navigational Chamber” to activate the concessions and facilities for importers of containerized goods through the port of Hodeida.

The meeting reviewed the obstacles facing workers in the economic and navigational sector and the procedures to solve and address them during the coming period.

In the meeting, the governor of Hodeida, Muhammad Ayyash Qahim, indicated that the meeting aims to listen to the obstacles facing the private and mixed sectors in the governorate and the port of Hodeida in particular, to develop solutions and treatments for them and to re-activate the economic, humanitarian and relief role of Hodeida port.

He stressed that the meeting also aims to activate the work mechanisms of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation in implementation of the directives of the Supreme Political Council to reduce customs duties to 49 percent of all imports that reach the port.

He pointed to the attempts of the aggression forces to exacerbate the situation, by resorting to printing banknotes without any cover and raising the customs tariff in the port of Aden, which falls within the imbalances that have exacerbated the economic and financial situation in the country.

Governor Qahim also stressed the importance of doubling control over materials arriving through the port and their conformity with specifications and standards, and taking the necessary measures on materials that do not conform to specifications.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Industry Mohammed Al-Hashemi indicated that the outcomes of the meeting are in the interest of the citizen and the merchant, as they are essential partners in the advancement of the national economy.

He praised the role of the private sector in alleviating the suffering of the citizen, especially in light of the economic war that the aggression and its mercenaries are making in various fields to weaken the national economy.. He praised the national private, commercial and industrial sector’s rejection of the decision to raise the customs price and not to deal with it, as well as its willingness to import through the port of Hodeida.

Al-Hashemi pointed to the supreme directives to provide facilities to the private and commercial sector to alleviate the burdens on citizens resulting from the aggression, the siege and the decisions of the countries of aggression and their mercenaries regarding raising the price of customs tariffs.

He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities to the private and commercial sector in coordination with the governorate leadership and to form an operations committee and activate communications to receive reports of any abuses, and support consumer protection efforts.

In turn, the first deputy governor of the governorate, Ahmed Mahdi Al-Bishri, considered the private sector an essential partner in stabilizing food, economic and social security.

He pointed to the Supreme Political Council’s interest in the commercial sector by granting it concessions and import facilities through the port of Hodeida.

Al-Bishri called on the private sector to contribute to supporting the development wheel in Hodeida Governorate by investing in sustainable service projects that serve the community, especially infrastructure projects.

The meeting was attended by the governorate’s Undersecretary, Abdul Jabbar Ahmed Muhammad, the advisor to the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Muhammad Al-Madani, the director of the Industry Office in the governorate, Muhammad Al-Hatami, directors of institutions, bodies and offices in the port of Hodeida, directors and representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and Navigation, and the private and mixed sectors
