Al-Ruwaishan: Taiz International Airport is gaining economic, political and social importance

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Caretaker Government for Defense and Security Affairs and Head of the Main Committee for Preserving the Campus Lands of Taiz International Airport, Lt. Gen Jalal Al-Ruwaishan, considered the strength of navigation and air transport, the size of airports and the services they provide locally and internationally to be part of the strength of any country in the world.

During the first meeting of the main committee for preserving the lands and campus of Taiz Airport today in Sanaa, Al-Ruwaishan pointed out that air transport and its many advantages play a major role in economic development and are considered a major axis in moving the wheel of the national economy.

He stressed that Taiz International Airport is gaining strategic political, economic and social importance, pointing to the necessity of rehabilitating and operating it to provide navigational services to the residents of the governorate and nearby governorates with a large population density.

Lt. Gen Al-Ruwaishan pointed out the necessity of resolving all the difficulties facing specialists in rehabilitating Taiz Airport in cooperation with the local authority in the governorate, and working to speed up its completion as the plans are ready and prepared by the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority.

He pointed out the importance of working as a single team to complete the work at Taiz International Airport, starting with the local authority in the governorate, which is mainly relied upon to facilitate the rehabilitation of the airport in cooperation with the relevant authorities in accordance with the plans and studies prepared by the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority.

For his part, the Caretaker Minister of Transport and Vice Chairman of the Committee, Abdul Wahab Al-Durra, stressed the importance of operating Taiz International Airport as it provides navigational services to more than six million citizens in a number of governorates of the Republic.

He pointed to the interest and keenness of the Supreme Political Council and all concerned parties in rehabilitating Taiz International Airport due to its navigational importance in providing its services locally and internationally in accordance with international specifications and standards emanating from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

He explained that the problem is represented by the aggression that systematically destroyed Taiz Airport completely, putting it out of service, in addition to problems related to the urban expansion near the airport campus.

Minister Al-Durra pointed out that the solutions are many and can be overcome by working as one team and restoring, rehabilitating and preparing Taiz International Airport in cooperation with the local authority and relevant authorities.

While the Acting Governor of Taiz, Ahmed Al-Masawa, expressed the readiness of the local authority and relevant authorities in the governorate to provide all facilities to quickly complete the rehabilitation of Taiz International Airport.

He stressed the local authority’s keenness to cooperate with the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority and provide all facilities to speed up the completion of Taiz Airport, which is a great gain for the people of the governorate and neighboring governorates.

In turn, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Muhammed Abdel Qader, stressed the importance of operating Taiz Airport as it is located in the middle of governorates with a large population density, indicating the readiness of plans and technical studies to rehabilitate the airport according to international specifications and standards.

The meeting, which was attended by the Secretary of the Local Council in Taiz Governorate, Muhammad Al-Haj, the Undersecretary of the Civil Aviation Authority, Raed Jabal, the Director General of Taiz International Airport, Nabil Shamsan, the Director of the Airports Sector, Amin Jamaan, and a number of specialists, discussed the mechanism of work of the Committee for Preserving the Lands and Campus of Taiz Airport.
