Minister of Transport calls for facilities for traders & importers through Hodeidah ports

An expanded meeting held on Sunday at the Ministry of Transport under the chairmanship of Minister Abdulwahab Al-Durra stressed the importance of developing and strengthening the partnership with traders imported through the ports of Hodeidah and providing facilities to contribute to the revitalization of the country’s trade and economic movement.

The meeting, which included the head of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Muhammad Ishaq, the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Capital Secretariat, Ali Al-Hadi, his deputy, Muhammad Salah, members of the Maritime Chamber, the Director General of the Maritime Affairs Authority in Hodeidah, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mushki, representatives of shipping companies and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, indicated the importance of joint coordination between the Chambers of Commerce and Maritime and the Ports Corporation in providing all services to commercial ships and containers through the ports of Hodeida, Ras Issa and Saleef.

The meeting approved the establishment of a joint committee of the Ministry, the Foundation, the chambers of commerce industry and shipping companies to develop the port of Hodeidah for its strategic importance in order to facilitate the commercial movement of ships and containers arriving at the port.

It discussed solutions to reduce maritime insurance fees for merchant vessels and tariff fees for services provided by shipping companies in line with the current conditions of operation of the port of Hodeidah and to provide facilities for cargo arriving to it.

The Minister of Transport stressed the need to provide all facilities to traders in ports that have been subjected to the most horrific aerial bombardment and economic blockade under shameful international silence.

He again called for the cessation of the inspection mechanism in the port of Djibouti, which would raise costs for goods and foodstuffs, which would adversely affect citizens.

He also called on the United Nations that the reduction of maritime insurance shall include all the ports of the Republic of Yemen without exception in the interest of the Yemeni people from Al-Mahra to Sa’ada.
